the biggest issue in the mix for me is the drum sound.
Oh yeah
and the lack of bass frequencies in general
even if maybe the band wanted to move towards a more garage sound as you also mention (??)
The point may not have been “garage” so much as “live”. More immediate.

Re: F-Punk [Dread Mixes]

Seriously nice job with this Marky! Certainly more "forward", as the audiophiles say, but this record needs to be more forward. The band sounds a lot stronger. Some of Mick's vocals too, though he sang a few of them in too low a key and had decided against his trademark hi-low octave double-tracking...

Re: B.A.D. Observations Thread

Sony already had the band’s final mix of Higher Power, which hadn’t yet been released, when they heard the demos for “Punk”, as it was originally called. This is when the alternate ideas about how to release the material were tossed about. Sony also had their staff engineer Michael Brauer (who has ...

Re: B.A.D. Observations Thread

It never got to the stage where any combined track lists were bandied about. Just that Looking For A Song would be potentially the lead track for an EP release that bided time until a full album was released. I don’t think this was a good idea as a single regardless, lyrically. Oh and Marky, I haven...

Could be interesting
Teddy mentioned this a few weeks ago. I wonder how these two became friends?
Is that what we’re calling it these days? ;)

Re: Combat Rock 40th anniversary reissue coming soon?

Interesting in that Glyn Johns interview that he makes no mention of Mick or Joe recutting lead vocals for Should I Stay or Know Your Rights. I’ve never discussed this with Mick, but this suggests maybe they had recut those before Glyn did his mix? Or perhaps his memory is failing.

Re: Did Paul Simonon Really Name The Clash?

Paul has a new album in the works for Sony with Galen Ayres, daughter of Kevin Ayres, produced by Tony Visconti. They call themselves Galen and Paul.

Re: Rebel Dread

I liked the film very much. Don did a very dynamic Q&A. He kept asking the producer during it if his comment was in the film. Half the time the answer was no!

Re: Joe Strummer 002 coming soon

So this Paul Hicks guy who remastered the Joe/Meskies box is working on The Beatles stuff. Look at this screenshot of Ocean of Dreams. The instrumental version we had and the Vocal version on the new box. The brickwalling is laughable. Why do they even pay people to do that? A computer programme wo...

New York screening was Monday night. A lot of the OG’s were there. Even Kos. Next Tuesday in Los Angeles at the Grammy Museum. I plan to be there.
