Re: Trippers Tokyo DVD

Yeah, I remember Chiz/Tripper's restoration being a cause of much excitement at the time - was it really 2005?! I think she also worked wonders on a Mont de Marsan Festival 1977 DVD - syncing up the full length audio to the partial video, adding still photos etc in the gaps (a bit like the restored ...

Re: So- how didn't I know the new Wire was out?

I have that change becomes us vinyl. It sounds so good. My favorite wire release, probably I'll bet I was wary when I heard about them revisiting song sketches from 1980, but it's proven to be the last properly great Wire album. Really fucking good from start to finish. I must confess I played it a...

Re: So- how didn't I know the new Wire was out?

Also, honestly, I don't think I even knew some of those albums had be re-re-issued and whatnot. Kory and Doc (and Marky?) what would you all say are the best sounding versions to get of the first three albums? I currently have the 2006 reissues of the first three albums on CD. I've not done a liste...

Re: So- how didn't I know the new Wire was out?

There was the Behind the Curtain compilation for those B-sides, but as you allude to with On Returning , it was pretty hard to find (probably still is to a degree). Actually, Behind The Curtain was all unreleased demos, not the stuff from singles etc. A real treasure trove at the time, although I t...

Re: So- how didn't I know the new Wire was out?

Will is an exceptionally talented interviewer. His subjects consistently end up in good spirits and talkative. (Will was the interviewer for the Airplane! oral history that was released last fall.) As for Albini, around 2002 or so, when Wire were recording their Read & Burn ep's (which were compile...

Re: So- how didn't I know the new Wire was out?

My buddy Will interviewed Colin Newman on the re-release of his album Bastard : https://qthemusic.com/p/colin-newman-interview-wire-steve-albini-pink-flag-spotify-snobbery/ (Fake self-backslap: I gave him the Albini question.) Thanks Doc, that's a really great interview. I had no idea Colin was so ...

Re: The Clash (Deluxe Edition)

Marky - what an unexpected and hugely welcome surprise1 A fine cure for the January blues. I've barely scratch (Perry)-ed the surface but what a feast - I swear you must have access to the multitracks to pull off some of the remixes and instrumentals. And the booklets about the sessions and lyrics a...

Re: 1980-03-08 Capitol Theatre, Passaic, New Jersey [Audio + Video Remastered]

The video is indeed the best version I've seen. Thanks to SS for sharing XRCF's skillz! I think I first encountered this footage on a bootleg VHS, an n'th-generation dub with bleached-out images and so much interference it was like watching it through a snowstorm. it cost a fortune but I still loved...
