https://pexlives.libsyn.com/geer Geers Kevin and I on the sophomore Did I miss S/T? Good stuff guys. Never really thought about the humbling lyrics of SEH making the call to arms on ECW that much more impactful. Still can’t get into anything after track three though… We reach... 35) Be Funny Or Die: How Comedy Works and Why It Matters - Joel Morris. Audiobook. 2024. This is apparently how all books are titled nowadays. Morris is a comedy writer who worked with Charlie Brooker and on Paddington 2, as well as on other stuff which was less successful for me. This book manages ...

Re: Whatcha reading?
I'm almost two hours into Dark Victory and am bored silly. Just an endless parade of 1930s music biz figures and mobsters having conversations and making deals. It may be true, but it's a dull story. And how does MCA figure? It achieves predominance in artist representation and distribution by work...

Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
Sounds like you fellows need a podcast that updates you on the hits of the day, setting them in their proper historical context in an accessible way as hosted by a music expert and her burntout friend.

Re: Hey Flex (All Encompassing 90's Glorification)
Nah, I don't think it's a given that you would have heard them. Even by the 90s things had fractured and siloed enough that people could be out of the mainstream and still be unaware of some alt scenes and trends. Like I mentioned, they were played on the LA mainstream rock radio station regularly....

... Though not being familiar with the big Daft Punk songs is really surprising to me. I know Rev is a special case, but I thought these songs were well known across the board. .. Just curious where would I have heard them? Ive been married since 92 and raising kids since 96, so there wasnt any clu...

Re: Commercials We Hate
I've probably seen this Jardiance commercial over 200 times and it always fills me with rage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aromts0OiHs We get the Canadian version of those drug ads, but Canadian law prohibits the ads from saying what the drug actually does. So the ads are invariably a bu...

Re: Currently watching.
Last Curb was funny in itself and as a conceptual fuck you to Seinfeld fans disappointed by the finale. I wonder, tho, if Curb's finale would have been similarly received if there hadn't been the Seinfeld reference to play off. If Seinfeld's detractors thought, "What the fuck were they doing?" we k...

Re: Whatcha reading?
Finished up my big ass re-read of Brubaker/Phillips. My favourite series remains Fatale , which would be a superb tv series. Sleeper has gone down a little in my estimation—it was my first exposure to them, but it feels a little clunky now—but The Fade Out has jumped quite a bit. It was a bit of a ...

Re: movies
I've seen most of the major Coen Brothers films, I'm starting to fill the gaps in now. Watched Raising Arizona over the weekend and found dull and tonally inept. Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. I love RA, but I haven't watched in awhile. Maybe it's aged poorly. I loved the part with Goodman and his ...
