Re: Wildlife Encounters
Saw the mourning dove family in our yard again this morning, parents left the fledgling behind about 2 hours ago, hoping they return soon.

Thanks for sharing that one, I've never seen it either.
Sadly though, first thing I thought when I saw it was Topper looks like hell. I'm glad he's been able to kick his bad habits to the curb and get on with his life.

Re: I need a good boffin.
Question for, probably, revbob, but maybe others: Is there a sensible reason why some days my home wifi is stupid slow on the 2.4GHz channel but good on 5GHz, then other days it's reversed? Just no rhyme nor reason as to whether one channel will be hobbled. As I understand wifi, 2.4GHz signal trave...

Re: Wildlife Encounters
Some good news this morning, spotted the mourning doves in our yard mating. A while later went outside to let our cats stretch their paws and spotted all 3, baby included, on the ground by the side of our house. Needless to say, cats were sent back in the house so as not to disturb the new family.

Re: SCIENCE!
Went over to my parents' house 2 miles away for the eclipse and watched from their backyard. It was cloudy and I was pissed off because I figured there'd be nothing to see. But just in time, the clouds broke slightly and I got a couple pics. I'm satisfied. The first pic also shows my Dad's radio an...

Re: Wildlife Encounters
This morning through a window I saw the hatchling mourning dove moving around quite a bit, went back to check an hour later and they've flown the nest. Can't seem to find them anywhere on our property, so we're hoping for the best. How long has it been hatched? Is it in the right time frame for goi...

He's probably trying to redeem him self for staring & pointing at the last eclipse without eye protection.

Re: SCIENCE!
We were fortunate to have a warm clear day in April for this. It is a short walk to the lake overlook so we did the viewing from there although we would have had a clear view from the back porch. My cell phone pics dont do it justice. 20240408_152845.jpg20240408_152750.jpg Beautiful! We went outsid...

Re: Wildlife Encounters
We've had a pair of mourning doves nesting under the front of our roof eaves for the past 3 weeks now. Today I was finally able to get a picture of one of the hatchlings peeking out from behind mom. One year when I was a kid, some robins built a nest on the light above the front door. Unfortunately...
