https://i.redd.it/a6ln24sroitc1.jpeg The american ridicule of british food I always think is pretty weird. Aside from the tomato, this is pretty close to what you'd get at Denny's or whatever. It seems like it's a result of jingoism and the usual aversion of people to trying anything that's unfamil...

Everytime I see "Budgie" I think of the Banshees and then get disappointed that it's the wrong Budgie.

Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread

Maybe it's my age and this is way off, but I feel like the stigma of popular music wore off in the early to mid 2000s. Like it always had a negative reputation relative to "better music" be it indie rock, jazz, various subsects of punk that are/were antithetical to punk. I think popular music has g...

... Yeah, that fits in with what I should have assumed. You're a man who knows what he likes. I suppose Im somewhat predictable in my tastes. I lean towards traditional rock instrumentation, especially when played aggressively and I enjoy lyrics two things that are often missing from electronic mus...

Re: Commercials We Hate

My dad's always trying to get me to wash my car (I live in Seattle so it's never super dusty or anything), and I keep telling him I don't care what it looks like, it's a tool. If it gets me where I need to go, that's all I need it to do/be.

An observation: Mia Goth is the kind of name that Mad would use in a piece on The Lighter Side of Goths.
What hamfisted parody name will they come up with her instead? "See A Moth?"

Re: Wildlife Encounters

Ah, I see. I keep meaning to install some birdhouses in our backyard. Maybe this spring I'll follow thru. You should think about installing a birdhouse in your soul instead. You're putting too fine a point on it. Bee, bonnet, etc etc etc TMBG pulled off such a neat trick—fun, smart, nerdy, songs fo...

Re: Wildlife Encounters

Are they generally a pain in the ass kind of bird? Oh no, they're very interesting to watch. They sit patiently waiting to spot an insect, then they fly out, grab it in midair and return to eat it. The reason I remove the mud nests after they leave is to try to prevent the wooden fascia boards they...

Re: Wildlife Encounters

One year when I was a kid, some robins built a nest on the light above the front door. Unfortunately, whenever anybody used the door in anyway, the adults would fly away. Not good for protecting the eggs. They did hatch, tho, and once they'd matured my dad took the nest down. If you double-click on...

Being perfectly honest, I'd probably be more a Captain Darling type than a General Melchett, but either way, it's others who get the bullet or the PTSD ;) Don't forget that Darling finally got it in the end (we presume). Wibble :shifty: Just don't shoot Speckled Jim and you'll be fine. Fwiw it had ...

We have them with some frequency in Seattle, and they keep threatening The Big One™ which will be 9.0 or so, which I'm terrified of and ruins my day every time I think about it. Insult to injury, you'll be at work. They say there's a 10% chance of it in the next 50 years but I still don't like thos...

This is where we part ways, my 90s brethren.
In that case, I'll ask them to start doing more comedy songs since it won't bother you anyways.
They do seem like they'd have a great sense of humor.
