Re: Dark Horse releases - 'Assembly' 2LP

"Home recording" makes it sound like late era joe to me. Didnt he have a decent studio set up in the Somerset gaffe, however long he lived there? Recall Luce saying there was a fair bit of stuff left over, fingers xed this is but a mere taste of it.

Re: Earthquake Weather LP

Really like Gangsterville as well. But also like most of the album just fine. Favourites would be Leopardskin Limousines, Sleepwalk and King of the Bayou (just a great song melodically and lyrically, imo). Least favourites would be Boogie, Shouting Street, Ride the Donkey and Sikorsky Parts, which ...

Re: Strummservations

Joe didn't need help writing songs-- he often, but not always, needed help arranging songs. If anything he had too many ideas for songs and couldn't always tell the difference between a good idea and a bad one. I'm tallying up a list of post-82 Joe songs with melodies as strong as anything anyone's...

Dont know if you do requests, but there was an interview promoting Earthquake Weather I'd love to read again. Think it was in...

Re: clash images washed up on the internet's seashore

There were a lot of good writers around at the time but also a lot of pompous windbags like Bushell, Morley, Parsons, Burchill etc who always tried to be one step ahead, as if they were just as important as the stars they were writing about.

Sounds was my favourite of all the mags. Generally gave the Clash a pretty fair deal from my dodgy memory.

Re: clash images washed up on the internet's seashore

Great links. I'd have sworn this was a combat rock era photo if there was no caption. Yeah, it's kinda weird. London Calling was reissued in UK/Australia in '88 to promote The Story of The Clash comp. For the picture sleeves, CBS used three photo outtakes from the same Combat Rock shoot (in Thailan...

Re: What Are you Listening to Right Now?

I find the 80s Lilywhite sound a bit hollow, really The Psychedelic Furs - ST The Psychedelic Furs - Talk Talk Talk Big Country - The Crossing Big Country - Steeltown U2 - Boy U2 - October U2 - War Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel III (Melt) None of those sound hollow to my ears. Christ, if only U2 ha...

Re: The De-Berniator

I would be binning the first 3 songs anyway. Just dont like Dictator in any form, Dirty Punk and WATC may be serviceable tunes, at best i would say, but lyrically, thematically, i just loathe them. I know there's an argument over how much lyrics truly count, but "gonna drive my great big car down y...
