Re: Photo location

The Spinal Tap scene is filmed at the roof of the Hyatt, where Led Zeppelin (among many others) held court.

Re: Photo location

Yes, West Hollywood. You can almost see to where my house is above. Doesn’t seem to be the Continental Hyatt House, as they appear to be on the wrong side of Sunset. Maybe the old St. James Club.

Is the master you mention the same demo recording with vastly better clarity, or a more fully realized version of the song? Either way, it would be wonderful if Mick released this. Maybe the Joe Strummer 003?
Same recording. Better clarity. Better stereo separation.

Re: Dog in a Satellite lyrics?

Happy to oblige, Chris. I’m not sure if Mick was involved with the words. They seem very Strummer-like to me. As for the track, the master sounds far better than the air check from Don’s radio show. I think it’s releasable as is, and it’s sad so few have heard it.

Dog in a Satellite (Strummer/Jones) As TV Stations light up the room See the blue light shine out in Kowloon No flying saucer’s landed Chain saws at the ready Cutting up the cattle Eating blude down in the levee (blude: cattle blood and viscera) Oh if I had a horse and a ranch of course I would go ...

Mick tells me Leo Williams is playing bass in the live band, as Paul is playing the ukulele.

Re: The Kaleb Horton Deceased Latvian Foreign Minister Thread, 2023 Edition

Vida Blue was a hero of mine. I went to university at Berkeley and though I wasn’t yet there for Vida’s incredible first full season, or his truncated second after his holdout, I got to see him pitch many times. It’s too bad that Finley wrecked his enthusiasm. I guess he became in a way (more than o...

Re: Cool Confusion Punk Club Mix

Seb, this reminds me of CK’s famous “mongrel” sobriquet for ‘81 period live Clash. “Punk Club Mix” indeed!

Mick and Big Youth 2021 Track w/U Roy

I was looking for some U Roy and somehow came across this - a 2021 remake by U Roy with Mick Jones and Big Youth of a song he did originally with Johnny Clarke and King Tubby. I had no idea.

Re: Please help dating some tracks from Clash on Broadway

I figured Marky would swoop in with the definitive details. Maybe it's the lack of familiarity, but I think I prefer the now erased from history b-side version. Some added distorted guitar and a snare backbeat peps it up a bit compared to the pretty sparse subsequent version(s). Agreed but the best...

Re: Mick Jones on stage with Ian Hunter?

Ian did film an episode of “Rotten Hill” performing “Laugh at Me” with Mick at the bunker in Acton. All that footage is in the vault but we may get to see it sometime soonish.

Re: The Clash observations thread.

I do wish we could get hold of the whole Electric Lady session. They were doing a lot of cool stuff, and Mick was even overdubbing lead. All I have is the short video clips I shot there, and I've posted. Mick doesn't have anything either. I'm on good terms with Fred, but don't think it's up to him t...
