Uncut magazine interviewed Lydon, Wobble, and Bill Price on the recording of "Public Image."

Re: PiL Stuff?
I'll tell you, Lydon gets ragged on for selling butter and getting into nonsense like I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, but compared to Levene, he comes off like a more earnest version of goddamn Ian MacKaye here. Wobble's contribution is great too, the dude knows how to concisely nail a fucked up situation.Dr. Medulla wrote:Uncut magazine interviewed Lydon, Wobble, and Bill Price on the recording of "Public Image."
When approached to participate in this piece, Keith Levene has only this to say on his time with the band: "I'm not talking about PiL. I'm not trying to be a cunt. This is silly. Come on. I'm done with it."
JOHN LYDON, PERFORMER: I was very vulnerable. I was facing endless legal nonsense from McLaren, and I had nowhere to live, and I was flat fucking broke. Changing my name back to Lydon was to deal with McLaren's lawsuit. He wanted to continue using "Johnny Rotten" under different guises, and I wouldn't allow that to happen. The pressure was relentless. But I wasn't going to go back to a no-hope council flat and let the bastards beat me.
JAH WOBBLE, PERFORMER: Look at reruns of The Sweeney. That's what 1978 was like. Corrugated iron, poor-looking. Post-war. It was the real fag-end of punk up the King's Rd. It was bad-tempered and macho, with fascist skinhead losers drinking cider. As a reaction, we wore suits, had a bit of flair. I never did like punk.

Re: PiL Stuff?
One thing that people often forget about Lydon is that he often adopts a persona in public. That's something he said with regret about Sid, that he never understood that Johnny Rotten was just a persona and that he didn't need to be Sid Vicious twenty-four hours a day. The public sees more of real(?) John Lydon as he's gotten older and more reflective of his past.Still216 wrote:I'll tell you, Lydon gets ragged on for selling butter and getting into nonsense like I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, but compared to Levene, he comes off like a more earnest version of goddamn Ian MacKaye here.

I managed to get a second hand copy of Plastic Box, but the booklet is missing. Can anyone give me a scan of the contents? I always read these things and feel I'm missing out on something here.

PiL December 14th re-issues
Metal Box: 3 CD set
CD1: 1. Albatross 2. Memories 3. Swan Lake
CD2: 1. Poptones 2. Careering 3. No Birds 4. Graveyard
CD3: 1. The Suit 2. Bad Baby 3. Socialist 4. Chant 5. Radio 4
This seems totally pointless to me, what a waste of an opportunity to have some more monitor mixes or outtakes. Is it really worth putting this over 3 CD's like the original vinyl when the whole point of CD is to get more music on one disc.
Plastic Box will also be re-issued on the same day.
Thanks for nothing.

That is so bizarre. I usually love me a decadent and largely unecessary re-issue... but what the hell?Marky Dread wrote:PiL December 14th re-issues

At least I can finally pick up a physical copy of Plastic Box.

Yep the Plasic Box gets a small cheer I suppose and it will allow Virgin/E.M.I. to cash in on the recent gigs.Flex wrote:That is so bizarre. I usually love me a decadent and largely unecessary re-issue... but what the hell?Marky Dread wrote:PiL December 14th re-issues

Re: PiL Stuff?
Especially annoying when there are two known (mostly) unreleased batches of PiL recordings—the re-recorded first album and the Renovations sessions. Then again, it could be worse: a deluxe edition of That What Is Not.Marky Dread wrote:PiL December 14th re-issues

You know, the 180-gram vinyl really brings out the warmth of that album...Dr. Medulla wrote:Then again, it could be worse: a deluxe edition of That What Is Not.
