Complete King Biscuit Flour Hour 2-13-79 available?
Hello All, If you go to "Wolfgang's Vault", they show every track of the Cleveland Agora show as being recorded. However, there is no discernible way to purchase this recording. It is not listed as shows being available for download. I saw 3 or 4 complete tracks were available, but I would pay a small ransom for the complete K.B.F.H. recording. Does anyone know how, if at all, this could be accomplished? I do realize the last d/l on the Megalist is a 10 song "edited sampler", whatever that means. Conrats to the dedication of whoever is in charge of this massive undertaking, "The Megalist." A true labor of love. I just wish the powers that be @ Sony would give us long time fans something like a box set of the pro-recorded July 1978 Music Machine shows. We know they were taping at least the one night, as evinced by the inclusion of "Whats My Name" on "F.H.T.E." There is such a paucity of officially released live tracks from the early years, but if you are in love with the 1981+ sound of the band, you are in luck. Us "grey beards", who bought imported copies of the first LP at a scandalous price, and who love the pre-1980 sound of the band, might as well sod off as far as Sony/Legacy is concerned. Any Assistance Appreciated, Mac

A few things, I'll have to check my hard drive at home, but I believe (without being able to access bmc at this moment) there is a 10 song download of the February 79 (drawing a blank on the date) Cleveland show from the KBFH that I can upload. I think that is all that has been released. The rest of the show is available from the radio broadcast with maybe a slightly less clean sound. I speed corrected this source and it's a top 3 alltime show for me. Let me know if you'd like me to upload the 10 song KBFH source or the full radio broadcast (slightly lesser sound) with speed correction.
I'm not 100% convinced the Music Machine shows were pro-recorded. They have multicam shots for Rude Boy which differs from most of the other shows, so it's possible. The What's My Name performance and everything else from Rude Boy has been completely rerecorded in the studio for the movie. You are right though, 78 is a pretty rough year for good sounding boots. All the Lyceum shows have good audience recordings if I remember correctly and the 1979-01-03 date has a full soundboard in good condition with a few of those cracks touched up (and in some cases, fucked up) on the new Box Set. There is also the Cardiff/Leceister soundboard from May 77.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I always preferred the radio source to the KBFH version. The swear words were left in too.

Hey Matedog and Heston, Thanks for the info. I do have a version of the show that times out @ exactly 61 minutes, 20 songs. No cuss words though, but a great bit of spleen venting by Joe at the photographers. Mine is a radio source, but it is far from what I would call a properly recorded FM broadcast. It is perhaps my favorite show of all time, those early 1979 shows are worth their weight in gold even with their quality flaws. You can still hear Joe's guitar, Mick hasn't yet overloaded the mix with his foot pedal mania. My version is proper speed but lacks high end.
Possibly the truly greatest missed opportunity of all time was their January 3? 79 show at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC. (This was their very first show after crossing the Atlantic, was it not)? I was there in 1983, and you could have rolled in a reel-to-reel recorder on a dolly and would not have been stopped, at least by the Ballroom people. In 83, you could record audio/video, no problems-- the only thing that was prohibited was bringing in any alcohol, they wanted to sell it to you. (I'm assuming of course the policy was still the same in 79 as it was in 83, and that Clash roadies didn't interfere). They did play there, did they not? THE BEST CLASH IS LIVE CLASH, BasingSt78

Hey bro, I don't think I have your speed-corrected source, would you mind uploading if you get the chance? No rush though.matedog wrote:A few things, I'll have to check my hard drive at home, but I believe (without being able to access bmc at this moment) there is a 10 song download of the February 79 (drawing a blank on the date) Cleveland show from the KBFH that I can upload. Does the radio broadcast not leave in the swearing in Stay Free, which is bleeped out in the KBFH version? Or is my memory playing tricks again?BasingSt78 wrote:Hey Matedog and Heston, Thanks for the info. I do have a version of the show that times out @ exactly 61 minutes, 20 songs. Yep. January 31st, 1979 was their first North American date. If only, if only, if only...BasingSt78 wrote:

Ugh, I was looking for it last night on my hard drive and could only find the original version with the 4-song KBFH version, not the expanded 10 song one from like five years ago. I have the speed corrected mp3 on my ipod, but I can't find the lossless. I looked through both hard drives and about 13 DVD storage units.Heston wrote:Hey bro, I don't think I have your speed-corrected source, would you mind uploading if you get the chance? Does anyone have the megalist version of the speed corrected 1979-02-13 show (lossless) as well as the KBFH 10 song version from the m-list?

Here's the 10 song version from Wolfgang's in WAV format. I burned it straight to audio CDR when the Wolfgang's show first went online in 2008 or 2009 (no additional mp3 or other compression on my side) and these files are ripped from that CDR.matedog wrote: Does anyone have the megalist version of the speed corrected 1979-02-13 show (lossless) as well as the KBFH 10 song version from the m-list?
