In my defence I only like about 5 Elton John songs of the 8,000 tracks he's recorded.
That's about 5 more than I like.

Had a couple of repeats on Wednesday so taking songs from the playlist throughout the week for Wednesdays. Long story short, there's been some bangers on today.

I really can't believe Dolly is beating the Elton song. It's like the Dukes of Hazzard theme tune beating Strawberry Fields in a poll.
No it isn't.
Heston has said some dumb shit. But this is peak.

9 to 5 is a pop song sung by a southern woman who works in country. It was the theme to a major motion picture that was later turned into a broadway musical because she is also an incredibly awesome gay icon and overall good human being, but keep being the absolute bellweather of bellend opinions.

Love Elton but that Dolly song features everything that made me fall in love with music in the first place.

Just like a natural alliance between punk and hip hop made a the sense in the world, an affinity between punk and country has a lot of merit too. That's all I'm going to say on the subject.

I take it Dolly is some kind of sacred untouchable cow that we're not allowed to take the piss out of then? Even though the board takes the piss out of everyone else? Sorry, I never got that memo.

Well, I love Dolly personally, but I'm personally perfectly happy to see any mocked.

Everyone gets their turn being mocked and some routinely get a deserved kicking (Clapton, Collins, etc). Just goofy to dump on that song as redneck. As is, I like "9 to 5" more for its themes than to actually listen to it.

Not Dolly specifically really for me - she's fine but not an all time fave and the song pushes a lot of buttons i love about music but it's not a top 10 classic for me or anything - but I think the redneck crack would be a bit like calling the specials shit because they were liked by white and black working class losers. I mean, knock yourself out if that's what you makes you laugh, but it doesn't really resonate with me personally.

As I said, reminds me a bit of the odd disdain (some) punks have/had for hip hop back in the day. Dolly, Wu Tang, and The Clash all have a lot of common characteristics and common cause, imho, so the dismissiveness just seems odd to me.
