Whenever people celebrate crappy bands, I regret that we always chase off the scolds who tell us that Joe would be horrified that we like crappy bands. We need to keep guys like Clashy on ice, like a winter soldier, and thaw them out when needed.
I'd prefer Clashy under ice.

He was a short-term, intense asshole. Chico was like a persistent low-level headache.

Based on the dates Clashy may have been during my board sabbatical not sure but I also rarely stray from the general, politics and music forums.

Hard to believe it was nine years ago. The very idea of discussing Mark Trail seemed ludicrous.

He went after Hoy. Only WE are allowed to go after Hoy.

In all seriousness, Hoy showed great patience, restraint and kindness when talking to this turd.

I just read through the thread and, oh boy, my biggest takeaway is that he thinks RATM is revolutionary.

And, poof, just like that, he was gone. Did he even really exist?

Hoy was the only real adult in the room. I don't regret being a jerk—the guy deserved it, quite heartily—but I was on the juvenile side of maturity.

Same. And I fully embrace that because he was such an asshole. But I don't think I would have reacted that way now.

Fuck it, I don't dislike Matchbox Twenty. They've got like five songs I can get behind. I don't think I realized this until just now.
What's your opinion on Stone Temple Pilots? I used to hate them but once you get past Core they have some really tasty songwriting.
You're speaking his language.
Ha! "Tasty" 90's music.

Yeah, I haven't dug too deep into their catalog, but the stuff after Core is way more glam inspired. Big Bang Baby, Lady Picture Show, Vaseline, Interstate Love Song are all legit.
You’re right they definitely got better the less “grunge” they tried to be. They hold up a lot better than Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, all of that early 80s alt rock stuff because they kind of just simply tried to be a good Rock n Roll band.
This is another one of my favorites that you may like:

*Nods in agreement*
Dave Matthews Band is quite alright. They easily have the most insufferable fan base in music outside of Skrewdriver though.
