Hello,

The West Ends - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
West Side - Cut Chemist
A Northwest passage - The (International) Noise Conspiracy
Life is the Slowest Blade - Dazy
Wild, Wild West - Kool Moe Dee (I'm going way back for this one)
I remember googling him cos of Yalla Yalla but never got round to listening to any tracks.
Hello,

"How Ya Like Me Now" was probably his biggest hit and probably also his best track.

Very dated but it's still catchy - looking back, this was when when rap/hip=hop had a bot more innocence - no mention of whores (hoes) or n-words.
Trailblazer. I can hear his influence on Rakim.

My hackles got a little raised by the second part of your sentence. It reads like a value judgement and I don't think the changing forms of self-expression in hip hop are either are good or bad and, as we've discussed before, both today, and at the height of its popularity twenty five years ago, the gangsta/misogynistic parts of the music are only one part of a varied whole.

For anyone interested in the early history of hip hop (Maj and matey, ahem) this is essential listening:

(The podcast generally, not this episode specifically)
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Nice, I'll try and remember to give it a listen.

I will be downloading the Wu Tang series that's, however temporarily, on Disney+. Heard great things about it.

edit: Oh, it's a drama. I was hoping for an in-depth documentary. Never mind, frankly.

Did anyone here watch the Netflix doc series on the same topic?

Yeah, it was far too fast paced and raced over the fascinating early days.

(I also like Pet Shop Boys' cover, but I've been listening to lots of disco lately.)
