This week I been mostly listening to.....the new conflict album. The 1st in 23 years! The last album was the 1st pre order vinyl record I ever bought...done properly from a record shop, took bloody ages but then again so did this box set and that's with the tinterclick!
Anyway check out the single with Zephenia, very good even if it features zero OG conflict members!

Hello,
The Budos Band - VII. If you were writing a blaxploitation film, I'd be contacting these guys for the soundtrack/theme. This song seems a bit more combo blaxploitation/spaghetti western (Morricone-ish).

Ethel Cain, Preacher's Daughter. It could be accused of being overwrought in places, but I love this album more with each listen. Dark country, (Southern) gothic, gospel, ambient all mixed up. Like all her stuff, it seems like it should be listened to alone, maybe a bottle nearby.

have you recommended her to me before? This sounds very, very much in my wheelhouse.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑10 Jun 2025, 2:34pm

I don't know if I recommended her to you specifically, but I have mentioned her before here (her new single, "Nettles," came out last week and is one of my favourite songs so far this year—equal parts devastating and hypnotic). A student recommended her to me a couple years ago—easily one of the best student tips I've received.Flex wrote: ↑10 Jun 2025, 4:01pmhave you recommended her to me before? You'll either dig it or you'll find her voice too much. As I mentioned to Flex, check out "Nettles" off her upcoming album. That'll give a sense of whether, overall, it's for you.revbob wrote: ↑10 Jun 2025, 5:17pmI like the sound of thisDr. Medulla wrote: ↑10 Jun 2025, 2:34pm

Apparently I'm about a year behind, but I'm loving this song:
Soul-rock, pop, r&B with hooks for days. Some nice mix ups on the arrangement too.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
