God bless modern technology:
Some of the worst drum sounds I've ever heard.
Yikes.
There is very little that is redeemable from that mess of an album. There are a handful of songs/moments that don't make me cringe, but overall - the lack of musical chops/common sense displayed are monumental. It's like they typed: "retro fun in the sun songs" into some shitty songwriting software and then just tacked on vocals.

I was just looking at the cover of Sunflower where the band is wearing costumes. Brian is the Good Humor Man. Bruce is a chauffeur. Al an organ grinder. Carl a cowboy. Dennis some sort of retro motorcycle rider.
Mike? He's dressed like Jesus in flowing white robes as 2 young kids look up to him like he's about to reveal the meaning of life. Good grief.

For reference.
I'm just happy Bruce isn't wearing god damn shorts. When did that become his thing?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I think the shorts started appearing mid-to-late 80's.

Also, that "Pilgrim Hat" stuck around with Al for just a bit too long, too.

The inner gatefold photo is even better. He's even positioned on some ancient looking steps.
Oh okay, that makes way more sense.

What the fuck is Mike wearing in this photo? It's like a metallic hard hat.

Shit it just passed. Maybe we can work something out.
