We seem to have a lot of Kokomo apologists in here. I may have to call up ZOG and do something about this.
Between that and the Phil Collins / Billy Joel / Wham stuff, this has been a bad month. The only legitimate comparison is the American secession crisis in 1860–1861.
Isn't ZOG down with BJ? I thought Jenny and Matt Patrol were the only Jews that don't like Billy Joel.
You are correct. Alan Light also dislikes Billy Joel. But ZOG understands that, sometimes, collateral damage is necessary for the greater good.
I'll be at odds with the ZOG until Gene Simmons is dealt with harshly.
Just be patient. His time will come.

I had no idea there was a Spanish version of the song. I'll have to check it out.

Also, I was reading the hype description for the Mike Love Boys Beaver Creek appearance and fucking LOL:
Love’s role as the band’s front man sometimes overshadows his stature as one of rock’s foremost songwriters.
Wow, Brian is all up in that. Carl's vocals don't sound as strong, he's doing his breathy soft sound he sadly employed on SiP.
I agree on Carl's vocal. I wonder if it had something to do with singing in Spanish - maybe just lacking the confidence to really nail it like he does on the English version? I had heard about the Spanish version for several years...but only recently bothered to listen to it and I was pleasantly surprised to hear how prominent Brian sounded on the chorus. He also sounds quite good. I know he used a vocal coach during the recording of the Brian Wilson LP which would have been happening around the same time as Kokomo.

It should be pointed out that Kokomo lost the Grammy for best song written for a television show or movie to none other than Phil Collins...who won for the track Two Hearts from the film Buster!

You will know the Mossad van for its ability to idle for eight straight days on a minimal amount of fuel.

The greatness of the Beatles may well come down to them just quitting rather than shoehorn contemporary styles to get airplay.
1978 Paul would 100% have foisted a disco song on a bored, bearded Beatles to sleepwalk through.

My name is Paul and they call me Macca
Our furious raps will give you a heart attacka!

Me, I'm George, the quiet one
But I can hoot and holler and make some fun!

Me name is Ringo and I play the skins
Cos when you're with the Beatles, everyone wins!

Rappin' with the Beatles, please pleasin' you and me
Rappin' with the Beatles, comin' together to make the world free

This is worth a bump. Gave me a good laugh this morning.

Truly a dark, dark timeline. Thank you, Yoko and Allan Klein and the Eastmans and John Hinckley for preventing that from happening in ours.

From David Hepworth's book on rock music in 1971*:
Mike Love, the singer and most reliable source of embarrassment, led them into a tour with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi just as his serene stock was beginning to tank.
* Unless you're just into a bunch of rock vignettes, there's nothing to recommend about the book. He claims 1971 is rock's landmark year, but doesn't say or demonstrate why, and that it's the year that pop became rock, again not explaining what he means by the two terms or how this happens.

I'd love to see some footage/hear some audio of that tour. I've read about it and sounds like a massive, massive disaster. They couldn't even give tickets away.

Hepworth says the band suffered an identity crisis of sorts at the time and considered changing their name to The Beach.
