Did I ever share the inaugural and so far only chapter of my book about MacGowan's songs? It's from, I think, two years ago, but I will write the rest.
No, but please do.

Very strong intro, Murph. More, please (and sooner rather than later, thanks).

It was a cobbled together backing band that Shane was going to have for a benefit gig he failed to turn up to. I plan to put the anecdote in the entry for Church of the Holy Spook which I sang the hell out of.

So I wasn't completely off base, still a great story

I dont think anybody ever did Waltzing Matilda better than Shane. He was born to sing that song.

I love the track "Haunted" from the Sid & Nancy soundtrack.

Beautiful song. I prefer the later version with Sinead O'Connor but not much wrong with the original either.

Lorca's Novena is out of this world, a massive masterpiece.

One of the better songs on Hell's Ditch and I do really like it but Shane was starting to sound a bit ragged by then.

I agree. The version with Sinead just edges it for me, but I was more than happy enough with the original. There's about a cd's worth of Pogues material from soundtracks that makes for an offbeat but interesting compilation. Most of it is already on the Just Look Them Straight In The Eye And Say... Pogue Mahone! box, but worth listening to together.

This is one of the best songs from the "Spider on vocals" era but somehow only made it to b-side status...
