While I'm on, why is the lead vocal so low in the mix on Monkey Man? Stops it from being a real contender.
Yeah they are fairly low in the mix. There's a vibraphone on the track with the piano track. Maybe they wanted to hear those more to the fore and so the vocal suffered. Could do with remixing.

They're perfect in the mono version! So this is how it should sound...

Vocals always sound louder in mono mixes. They are centralized in the mix. Personally I prefer vocals in the centre. Unless they are fed separately in both channels. I think this why all those early 60s tracks sound better in mono.

Let It Bleed was the Stones' last album to be released in an official mono version.

Yeah, very noticeable difference in the vocals, sounds better to my ears, even in mono.

They've started playing "Out of Time" on the current tour, a song they've NEVER played live before.

I referenced the Black and Blue deep cuts on the Ranking thread. This version might make the Black and Blue version obsolete:

Love Billy Preston's backing vocals too.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Wow, that version is TOUGH! I agree - it might make the Black and Blue version obsolete. Nice solo from Woody. I need to listen to this entire recording.

I'm listening to it on TIDAL right now. It is great. The version of Fool to Cry is better than the LP version. The band sounds tight & vital. Also, a cool, eclectic set: the standard, but also dipping back into their blues roots.

This is the series of shows that began with Keith's drug bust, right? When we visited Toronto back in 2019, I made sure we visited the Western Harbour Castle and checked out the El Mocambo.
