Old news really. Discussed over and over. Should they drop the song? If it offends then yes but it's been played to death anyway. Could always keep the song and do a re-write I suppose.

Given that they're a nostalgia act now, I don't see why they're dumping it. The vast majority of people going to see them aren't seeking to be challenged or engaged; they're a lounge act giving the people what they want—the hits and nothing but.

They did play 2 new songs when I saw them on Saturday. Troubles A' Comin' (a resurrected cover from the Tattoo You sessions) and Living in a Ghost Town. Granted, I saw people headed for the restrooms / concession stands when less familiar tracks were played. I'm okay with them dropping Brown Sugar. They have a deep catalog of hits. Being a mega fan, I appreciated the few deep cuts they tackled, like Dead Flowers. I don't need to here Start Me Up again, but they're never going to drop that one.

They have so many classics that they can easily deep six that one.

Y'all got...cocaine eyes.... Not me, I don't have any coke whatsoever. I can't remember the last time I saw a band only drunk and not high. The 90s, probably.

It bothered me in the early 90s, not surprised it's getting stick in this day and age. Still hear it on the radio quite often though. I'm still torn on this subject, should we censor distasteful stuff from less enlightened eras?
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Well, I don't think it should be deleted from any stones albums or anything. I guess I don't think of dropping it from the setlist as censorship.

Censor is the wrong word because it connotes coercion and punishment. Any artist should be self-aware that their work is not timeless, that it is always grounded in history, and what makes sense in one period doesn't in another. We're not held hostage by the past; we're supposed to constantly interrogate the past against present needs and values. If that song is considered something of real living significance, it should be considered against the values of the present. If it's just treated as a relic, fine, it is what it is. So it's up to the band and the fans to assess its status today.

I don't own a pair of socks as snazzy as those. But if I did I would be definitely be wearing them just around midnight.😉
