Much as I would have loved a 5th real Smiths album in late 80s, splitting up when they did means there are no clunkers in the 60 or so songs Morrissey and Marr wrote together so it's impossible for Marr not to be the top Morrissey collaborator IMO... then probably Stephen Street

Between Boz and Alain, not sure I can pick but maybe Boz's peaks are slightly higher based on a quick top ten of each

Alain
Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself?
First of the Gang to Die
Tomorrow
Glamorous Glue
Hold on to Your Friends
Pashernate Love
Sunny
A Swallow on My Neck
Because of my Poor Education
How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel?

Boz
Now My Heart is Full
Reader Meet Author
Speedway
Jack the Ripper
Honey You Know Where to Find Me
Maladjusted
I Wish You Lonely
Blue Dreamers Eyes
Spring Heeled Jim
Noise is the Best Revenge
Good lists. I sometimes sell Boz short, but he has some fantastic co-writes. Black Cloud is another great Boz song.

It's curious that Boz has zero credits on I Am Not a Dog On a Chain. Jesse Tobias gets 6 of 11, Gustavo Manzur gets 3 of 11, with Mando getting the final 2.

That said, on Low in High School, Jesse only got 2 co-writes.

Boz is still listed as musical director, but I don't think he appeared on stage during his most recent Vegas performances. I believe that line up was Alain Whyte, Jesse Tobias, Gustavo Manzur, and Matt & Solomon Walker.

Boz might win it for Jack the Ripper and Speedway alone, although the quality has gone down overall since Alain left.

Johnny Marr answers questions: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/ ... -interview

Since re-emerging on his own however many years ago, he consistently comes off as a well-grounded, thoughtful person. He's not modest but neither is he boastful. Just someone who is observant, reflective, and has a sense of what he can do and cannot.

Johnny is Johnny always. What you see is what you get. No hidden agendas, no bullshit. Solid geezer.

Take any idea that consumers initially like—RSD, streaming television—because it gives good value for the money and then gouge the fuck out of people who have come to look forward to it. Then complain about fickle consumers when they walk away.

The thing I've never understood about capitalists. They live and die by the philosophy, then get all butthurt when people vote with their wallets or whatever.

One of the many contradictions (or hypocrisies, if you prefer) of capitalism is that the unspoken goal is escape competition and the market. Actually having to hustle and make concessions to consumers is an evil that they wish to transcend. Magic of the marketplace? It's a hex. Everyone wants to get the part of a game of Monopoly where you just sit back and enjoy people rolling the dice, knowing they're fucked because you control that entire side of the board.

Two very, very cool dudes. BTW, anyone listen to JM's new record and have thoughts? It's a grower but it's something I'm liking more and more. A lot of it is a me problem, that I have to let go of the idea that I'm going to hear something that might have been a Smiths song. He's moved on—a long time ago—but it's harder for me to let go of that false expectation.

I really like it. I agree that it takes a few listens to truly hit.
