Oh, as to the original question, Midnight Oil might fit the bill.

A fantastic band. I became a fan after hearing Blue Sky Mine on MTV back in 1990. Finally got to see them live in the summer of 2002 when they played Summerfest. The crowd was maybe 1/3 Oil fans - but the rest was typical for Summerfest: including too many drunken (drunk on $12 Miller Lites) suburban Paul Ryan white folks. At one point Peter Garrett started talking about the Yucca Mountain (the nuclear waste dump in Nevada) and this obnoxious and tipsy middle aged white woman standing near me yells "we don't want to hear you politics, go back to England"...
