There's some great stuff posted here - when do you ever see this sort of mesmerising energy these days? Or am I just getting old?
My contribution to the party. Pete Thomas drumming for his life, EC mugging away and having to change guitar, feedback chaos at the end.
Marvellous.

Brilliant thanks John. I guess it is hard to come up with that energy and conviction when you are singing about shopping for new trainers.
Way better singing about not being able to afford new trainers.
That is a real first world problem.

Scarifyingly brilliant. What'd Pete Townshend say about EC in '78 or so: "He's really just London Bruce Springsteen, isn't he?"

Seems like a lazy dig at rap. A lot of songs that mention footwear are abour pride and status, that mod thing of living well under difficult circumstances.

That Pete Meaden quote is "clean living under difficult circumstances". Doing the best you can within your means. Not spending money on the stuff you can't afford but looking the best in the stuff you can.

It's why the original mods wore parkas. Bought cheaply to wear over their smarter clothes and keep them clean.

A band totally in tune with each other, love this. Their first TV appearance and they never got better for me...

Great stuff. Stipe has the weirdest charisma for a lead guy. Such remoteness. Engagement but at a distance. Especially as the guys around him are bopping around like Mexican jumping beans.

Annie's my favourite Squeeze tune. It's happiness.
