A good cause. I expect it will sound terrible though.

I'm not holding my breath on it being a classic. especially if Idol is doing it, god bless him. Great back in the day but everything he touches now sounds like it's been sprinkled with Hollywood glitz. Remember this.

Yeah sadly. I've got some live shows by the Neurotic Oustsiders where Billy joins them for "Pretty Vacant" and others and he doesn't even know the words. Just awful.

The court's ruling, Lydon concluded, would keep him from making his own biopic – “because [the other Sex Pistols] would outvote me.” But he added, “I don't moan about it. … No matter what aspect my life's going through – upturns, downturns – I’ll find the comedy.”
Now I'm curious what it'd sound like if he did moan about this stuff.

I believe this airs on the same channel that will be showing Pistol.

So obvious it was John. Firstly you can't disguise that voice and it's well known he's a big Alice Cooper fan. Still I don't blame him making money anyway he wants to.

However where the Pistols are concerned I just don't understand how their legacy can be damaged by this new film. The Swindle movie, Sid & Nancy and so many poor live versions of Sex Pistols songs played by PiL/and just about every other band Jones, Cook & Matlock have been involved in. Legacy what bloody legacy. The band made one incredible album and that's it. The music has been reissued infinitum with fans like me having to buy some absolute crap over the years.

John wasn't in control just like when Sid & Nancy was made. Again this new film is based on Jones "Lonely Boy" and not "Rotten" or "Anger is an Energy".

John needs to accept he is not the final word on the band. After all he joined their band. Sure he was the voice but recently he's been saying stuff like how can the guy who wrote the songs be left out. Well John you never wrote any songs you wrote the lyrics. The song was made by the whole band.

I dont care how he makes his money either but dont go crying about legacy, integrity or whatever while you're doing shit like this. This is a case of an awful show trying to be edgy. You cant have it both ways.

Oh sure, I don't begrudge him doing whatever he wants for a buck. It's more the ease with which he switches between voice of True Punk™ and voice of commercialism.

And that's just it. There have already been so many depictions of the band in film and tv, how can one more suddenly bring it down. That it's coming from the memoir of a Pistol as opposed to, say, Alex Cox's imagination should be a positive. But then that's the real nut of it all—it's coming from the memoir of a Pistol not named Lydon.

Yeah, I had a laugh over him anointing himself songwriter. Co-songwriter, bud. For all his talk about being overruled by the others, this is a linguistic editing of the band's history that imposes himself as dictator.

When I bought "Anger is an Energy" I had a wrist band that got me into his book signing. But after I read the book and he painted himself as such good boy I couldn't be bothered to turn up. Everything you read about John is always about how it's never his fault. How he's always right.

I feel for him regards Nora and I'm still interested to see what he does next with PiL but beyond that...no thanks.

That was my reaction to the book, as well. He's a loyal friend, always doing the best he can for others, yet constantly betrayed by all he helps, but he forgives everyone because that's who he is. It's like the book was written by his publicist. One of the things I appreciated about Steve's memoir was he admitted, yup, I fucked up over and over. Horrible upbringing, but he still accepted his failings. No judgement on others, only himself. (It's reminiscent, in its own way, of Peter Hook's vs. Barney Sumner's memoirs; Hook admits failings, Sumner doesn't.)
I feel for him regards Nora and I'm still interested to see what he does next with PiL but beyond that...no thanks.
I'm less eager about PiL, but I do sympathize with him taking care of the person who has been with him for two-thirds of his life now and going thru a terrible ending to her life.

How many depictions has there been. Personally I've only seen Sid and Nancy and GR&RS.

Filth and the Fury (which I've always regarded as Lydon's version, as opposed to the band's). There was also that episode of Urban Myths that recreated the Grundy incident, and the DOA documentary that covered the American tour.
