I thought as much, but the youtube channel for that source is pretty random and hard to search through. If this was publicised earlier, I missed itMarky Dread wrote: ↑14 Sep 2021, 8:30amThat was up the same time as all the Clash stuff. Theres lots of little clips of him from that Jamaican jaunt.

Re: Sex Pistols
He basically went from San Francisco to Jamaica right? Footage seems interesting because he was probably sorting out his next moves or rebuilding himself right after leaving.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
Re: Sex Pistols
Ive never read up on the subject but I would have thought he was planning his exit for a while.

San Francisco flying to
New York - (staying with photographer Joe Stevens)
Jamaica - meeting with Don Letts and Richard Branson. In Jamaica Branson tried to persuade members of Devo that John should be their singer. Neither party were interested.
London - PiL.

Um, yeah, colour me skeptical. If Lydon is broke, it's not because of a failed lawsuit, unless he hired the most expensive lawyers of all time.

Re: Sex Pistols
I mean, really, the notion that a short court case that he initiated has left him broke? If he had won he still would have been broke because he was trying to prevent the show from using Pistols music, no? He wasn't seeking damages. Or am I misunderstanding his failed suit?Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Sep 2021, 3:38amJust sounds like sour grapes to me.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑15 Sep 2021, 2:05amhttps://www.nme.com/news/music/john-lyd ... ls-3046126

Re: Sex Pistols
I'm as baffled as your are. The Sex Pistols are owned by Universal (they're pretty big right?) they are putting out Pistols product at a decent rate for a defunct band. The new box set is imminent. Then John has his PiL stuff and his speaking tours. He owns properties. I'm sure Nora's medical bill isn't cheap but he's the primary carer from what I've heard.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑15 Sep 2021, 6:33amI mean, really, the notion that a short court case that he initiated has left him broke? Maybe John has been misquoted and he wasn't saying he is broke but the cost of the case (long term) is high. Surely all the ex Pistols including him will make money from Danny Boyles film.
He didn't like the idea of the music being used in Boyles film fair enough (I guess) but the alternative is the film being made anyway and using remade music. So how would that affect the so called "Legacy".
The Swindle film destroyed any real credibility the band had. But it was done with humour and it was for the best part tongue in cheek. Even though John was not a willing participant he would've still made money from that project.
I'm at a loss to see any real legacy where the music or it's makers are being used or where this new movie is detrimental in any way. John has covered Anarchy in the U.K./Holidays in the Sun/Pretty Vacant and even the turgid Belsen Was a Gas with PiL all sounding awful compared to the originals. Legacy? seriously give it a rest John you are becoming a bore.
