Damn, ain’t that it. I get it, you like the beat. Come on though! Tunes over four minutes are superfluous.Wolter wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 12:23pmAlso: maybe a little shorter on the song lengths.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 10:34amMe too! There are some really great tunes. There also a lot of stuff that just plays like a Colecovision game soundtrack. I'd like to hear a lot of their catalog revisited and played with the straight bass, guitar and drums method.Wolter wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 2:18amI like about 30% of their discography a lot.BostonBeaneater wrote: ↑02 Nov 2018, 7:47pmApologies to all but Big Audio Dynamite. They had some great, fun singles but I wouldn’t spin the whole disc. A big part for me is how poorly 1980s innovations have aged. This sound machine noodling isn’t really my thing.
But yeah.

The Doors. Led Zeppelin. Post-Barrett Pink Floyd. Loved them all as a kid, but can't bring myself to listen to them now. I'd go so far as to turn off LZ and PF if it came on. Guess I might leave the Doors on in the background for a couple songs.
And I may go back to revisit them, but Guided by Voices. Some songs are pretty great but completely unmemorable, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've sought out an album to listen to. Had tickets to see them once, but had to bail. Maybe that would have changed my opinion.

I've had GBV recommended to me more times than I can count but every time I check them out I remember why I couldn't remember if I had or not.C1ashCityRockr wrote: ↑12 Nov 2018, 7:15pmThe Doors. Same. I checked them out when they released that song with the line about Joe, and I thought to myself "Wow. They're...fine."Silent Majority wrote: ↑13 Nov 2018, 2:07pmThat's like me and the Hold Steady.Kory wrote: ↑13 Nov 2018, 1:39pmI've had GBV recommended to me more times than I can count but every time I check them out I remember why I couldn't remember if I had or not.C1ashCityRockr wrote: ↑12 Nov 2018, 7:15pmThe Doors. I know I’ve heard both, but put a gun to my head and ask me to name a single song by GBV or the Hold Steady, and you’re going to have a Wolter’s Brain Mural on the wall.JennyB wrote: ↑13 Nov 2018, 4:32pmSame.
