Along those lines, the drums that start “Five Years” are a beautiful easing in to the Ziggy Stardust album.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 5:38pmMaybe not what you're going for, but for setting a mood, the eerie and minimal percussion at the start of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" works for me.

What about STH for setting up the song.

Can't it be both.

Yes definitely with this. It would've been so easy to start the album with one of the heavier tracks. But the build up on "5 Years" really works with the songs narrative.Wolter wrote: ↑21 Dec 2018, 12:24amAlong those lines, the drums that start “Five Years” are a beautiful easing in to the Ziggy Stardust album.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 5:38pmMaybe not what you're going for, but for setting a mood, the eerie and minimal percussion at the start of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" works for me.

Big Country - In a Big Country (Album version)
Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "Listen, mate, "life" has surface noise."

ZFG, the Hot for Teacher drum intro is hard as shit, but also sounds really cool:
Overplayed to hell, but Zep's "Rock and Roll" intro is another fav. It's such a strong driving and creative intro. "Lust for Life" is another obvious choice. "Tommy Gun" as well.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Also, Sunday Bloody Sunday because it's trickier than it appears.

SBS is a good call, early U2 was decent for good drum intros. Also I Threw a Brick and Refugee from October and War respectively.
Train in Vain, though probably technically unremarkable, and Version City from the Clash. And Mag 7 too though that’s more a combo of drums, bass and percussion to be fair.

Re: Great drum intros...
It has no solo drum intro unless you mean live?
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Ha, that intro had nothing to do with the rest of the song.

I'll never forget the first time i heard it. It actually comes in again in the middle but goes straight back to the smooth jam.
