Does anyone know if Rag and Bone Buffet is still relevant now that the deluxe editions have come out? I'm having a hard time cross-referencing and was hoping somebody owned both and is familiar enough to know offhand.
I'll check R&BB against the deluxe versions and the Fuzzy Warbles box set.
Thanks! I noticed there's a couple overlaps on Drums and Wires, but I can't see if they're the same versions or what.
I did find this which is interesting. I think it's from back in 2010 so old news but of interest to see if this lead to the deluxe editions.

Weird, I wonder if they were going through everything and thought, "shit, there's enough here to just re-release everything."

Yep that's a good document. The Manor is a lovely place just near Oxford. I lived just a short train ride away. Loads of great bands have recorded there. PiL / Skids / Sham Pistols loads of the Virgin artists of that era. XTC filmed their Generals and Majors video there with the bouncy castle etc, which Andy hated if memory serves.

I loved that when it was first shown - I thought wow, these fellas are really good musicians, and it also looked like such a fantastic job and way to make a record! Although it turns out the single had already been recorded, and they were just hamming it up a bit for the cameras.
I know it all fell apart big time for XTC and Virgin Records, but they must have been a great label to work with at the time. It must have felt like winning the lottery to record at the Manor. It's now a private residence again.

PS I like the clips of the garden party or whatever it was Branson threw... there's Fay and Eugene of the Revillos riding go-karts, and a glimpse of Brian Setzer, the Stray Cats must have just arrived in the UK

From their Wikipedia entry:
In 1993, Partridge conceived XTC's next project to be an album of bubblegum pop songs disguising itself as a retrospective compilation featuring 12 different groups from the early 1970s. The lyrics were also heavily sexual, with song titles such as "Lolly (Suck It and See)" and "Visit to the Doctor". Partridge recalled playing some demos for Virgin agents, and compared their reaction to the "Springtime for Hitler" scene from the 1967 film The Producers. The label rejected his idea.
Have any of these songs, demo form or other, seen the light of day?

Yes, I know Cave Girl and Standing In For Joe were both originally mooted for this collection.

Every song is great in this short set but Helicopter is just something else. Terry is a beast on the drums but Andy's rhythm playing is just immense.

When the strings and vocal harmonies come in at 1:50...bliss.
