Actually bought PPM a few years back being inexperienced with their music. Saw Her Standing There, fair enough, great track. Do You Want to Know a Secret and Twist and Shout, good numbers. The rest was pretty wank. Overrated to hell. That includes Love Me Do, urgh.
You're out on a day trip from the funny farm aren't you?
The only track I dislike on ''Please Please Me'' is ''A Taste of Honey''. I've disliked it from first ever hearing it 'til now. But there are some great covers on that debut ''Chains'' ''Baby It's You'' are awesome songs.
Just cannot take to it, Chains especially. Don't like the sound to the album, too twangy. But that's just the opinion of a non Beatles fan, it just ain't for me. In the words of Sean Connery in Goldfinger, "my dear girl, there are some things that just aren't done, such as drinking Dom Perignon '53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That's just as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs!"

The only reason that PPM seems slight now is because of what they did afterwards. It's an amazing debut that clearly blew away listeners in 1963/64.
Yep you have to credit it as the first great pop record and consider it in it's time frame. The first Kinks album from '64 is also great but that's a year and half later than PPM.
