I remember Lydon saying (largely correctly) that what sent Sid on his road to self-destruction is that he didn't understand that Sid Vicious was a persona, not who he was. Lydon's got a different problem—he wants his Rotten public persona but he also wants his Lydon(?) persona in public, too.
