It's an inspired cover, I'll give it that. The bass solo was a nice touch and I don't say that often.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Watt-Roy in masterful form.

Did he play on the whole album?

The credits are shrouded in mystery but it has been confirmed Watt-Roy played on the early album sessions. If that's not him on Born To Run I'll eat my hat. He played on Two Tribes but apparently Trevor Horn re-did it on the Fairlight.

I prefer FGTH version, but I'm still not a fan.

But that solo is played with a pick, surely, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Norman play anything but fingerstyle

Norman is the finest bass player I've ever seen absolutely incredible. He always plays with his fingers but he could have played this with a pick as requested for benefit of the sound. Put it this way I doubt the real FGtH bass player could play that good.JohnS wrote: ↑20 Sep 2019, 3:10pmBut that solo is played with a pick, surely, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Norman play anything but fingerstyle

Happy with a third of the votes for Frankie. It confirms to me it is the better version as they are up against a nearly untouchable superstar.

Pretty good song, prefer Bruce's version.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!

Re: Friday Poll Thread #9 - Best "Born To Run"
I like both but I like the Bruce Version better. If only for authenticity. A bunch of Scousers singing "Born to Run" conjures up images of them legging it down the road with some hub caps with the bizzies in hot pursuit.
