Heard a story that Springsteen, Billy Joel and Barry Manilow were getting a bite at a late night diner in NYC in the early '70s and Bruce and Barry both agreed that Billy would be the one to have the big career break out out. Bruce at the time was opening for people like Cheech & Chong and Chicago (and getting booed off stage); Mainilow was playing gay bath houses; what was Joel doing then to make them think he would be the big star?revbob wrote: ↑04 Nov 2019, 7:23pmIsn't that his whole career in a nutshell ?WestwayKid wrote: ↑04 Nov 2019, 12:23pm
I've never liked this song. Humorist Dave Barry once wrote that it sounded like a feminine hygiene product commercial.

Cant answer that, but i might be willing to believe it. I remember another story where Billy was in his limo coming from one of his gala MSG performances alongside his good pal Elton John. Elton was quizzing him intensely over his lack of studio output (no releases since early 90s or something like that), asking "why don't you make more albums?" To which, Billy sardonically replied, "why dont you make less?" Pretty decent comeback i thought, not out of ballpark quality maybe, but 2nd base at least!muppet hi fi wrote: ↑05 Nov 2019, 1:16amHeard a story that Springsteen, Billy Joel and Barry Manilow were getting a bite at a late night diner in NYC in the early '70s and Bruce and Barry both agreed that Billy would be the one to have the big career break out out. I always wondered why someone didn't make the opposite of this song - "She's not always a woman to me!" - that could be as big a hit as Lola.

"The Stranger" is not a bad album, but I just don't like this song.

Ha! My brother Sean tells a story about meeting Joel at a bar in Minneapolis, apparently after a show here. My brother had a red star badge on his leather jacket and Joel came up to him, blitheringly drunk, pointed at Sean's badge and said "Hey! Are you a SOCIALIST?" My bro said "Yeah". To which Joel replied "Hey! ME TOO!!" My brother said something like "That's nice" and walked away.Low Down Low wrote: ↑05 Nov 2019, 1:32pmCant answer that, but i might be willing to believe it.
