Friday Poll Thread #11 - The Pop Years - 1982
What a year. How great was 1982? Choose your favourite, everyone. Revbob, you can just seethe quietly.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Heat Of The Moment, a fantastic tune, one of my favourites from the decade.

Gotta be "Come on Eileen." "Centerfold" and "Steppin' Out" are the only other tolerable ones.

It came on the radio the other day and I hadn't heard it for a while. It was pretty good in "pomp pop" kind of way. A kind of palatable Rush.
I don't think it did that well over here on release but has somehow prevailed over the years, and become a classic. It has had a similar trajectory to Don't Stop Believin', which was also virtually ignored by the British public at the time.

They are my favourite three but I plumped for Centrefold. Eileen is just so overplayed over here it's hard to really like it anymore.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑28 Nov 2019, 7:44pmGotta be "Come on Eileen." "Centerfold" and "Steppin' Out" are the only other tolerable ones.

For me it's between "Eileen" and "Steppin' Out" - I still hear "Eileen" way too often on the radio but "Steppin" not so much so I went with that.
In space no one can hear you clash!

How can anyone not like Centerfold? You must have a heart of pure ice.

It's pretty dumb. That I'm okay with it is rooted in nostalgia, not genuine enjoyment.

There is only one song on the list!!!
I get your point about COE being overplayed and has never been one of my top Dexys toons however recently I have a new found love for it. It is a great song (even for a steal).

It really is absolutely fantastic and can still stir me if I'm in the right mood. But fuck, it is overplayed.101Walterton wrote: ↑28 Nov 2019, 8:19pmThere is only one song on the list!!!
