Very sad news, a true innovator. Rest in power.

Might have to get a shirt made from this.

Many years ago I bought a cassette copy of A Brief History of the 20th Century from the cutout bin of a local record chain. I knew very little about the band: they were British and they were listed as "post-punk" and they had an interesting name. I'm glad I took a chance on it because it was such incredible music from top to bottom, but the thing that really jumped out was Andy Gill's guitar playing: cold, twitchy, electric, angular...yet catchy. I hear his influence in so many modern bands that have seemingly built themselves around imitating Andy Gill's guitar sound.

Just looked at his Wikipedia page because I'd never heard about cause of death. It says pneumonia-related organ failure, but his wife has suggested it might have been COVID-19, as the band toured China in November 2019.

I mentioned this to a friend a few weeks into lockdown — sudden/unexpected mystery respiratory illness sounds like it fits. Really sad.
