Wednesday Poll #3 Best Song Ever...
Wednesday Poll #3 Best Song Ever...
...On the work's playlist.
Some good some bad this week, mostly bad. AC/DC and ABBA get some praise from me. Wonderwall is ok but massively overplayed and overrated. The Katy Perry song is shite.
Vote has to go with Elbow, a fantastic song with a beautiful booming chorus, ticks all the boxes for me.

Meat Loaf edge out AC/DC and ABBA for me.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Easily "Back in Black," with honourable mention to "Walking on Sunshine" (a song I didn't really like when it was released, but its stupid joyfulness has grown on me).
Anybody who picks "Wonderwall" better have the guts to admit it and accept the rotten fruit and vegetables from their peers.

Results fairly conclusive already this week. It is a banger to be fair.
Re: Wednesday Poll #3 Best Song Ever...
Probably the weakest set yet, but BiB is stupendous.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Back in Black. Not only is it a great song, but it's tune was one of my parodies for the guy to the left: "Wacky Mack, he sends a fax. Tells all the dogs to eat their snacks."

Wonderwall is incredibly shit for the reputation it has. Dreary, meaningless, out of key singing, it ticks all the wrong boxes.

Re: Wednesday Poll #3 Best Song Ever...
It's got a catchy chorus, like a lot of their stuff. And the lyrics are deceptively shallow. So it seems like it's deep and meaningful, but in reality isn't. It's an impressive talent.
Interestingly, I remember hearing Champagne Supernova way more on the modern rock radio in 96 or whenever than Wonderwall. WW charted a lot higher, so it's probably a misconception, but I certainly remember thinking CS was a bigger song. Don't get me wrong, CS is also vapid, but kinda catchy.

CS is the sort of song 16 year old me thought was incredibly deep and poetry at its finest.matedog wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 11:14amIt's got a catchy chorus, like a lot of their stuff. Isn't that most of Oasis' more successful songs?BitterTom wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 11:18amCS is the sort of song 16 year old me thought was incredibly deep and poetry at its finest.matedog wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 11:14amIt's got a catchy chorus, like a lot of their stuff.
