If Music Could Talk

As a distraction/quarantine time killer type thing...how could we do something like this? I'm talking about compiling a consensus list of the 100 greatest punk songs ever.

What if we all nominated 10-20 songs each to create a master list and then we could run a survivor type poll to narrow the list down until we got to 50 songs and then continued to narrow the list down, but keeping track of what song was ousted at 50, 49, 48, 47 and so on.

What do you guys and gals think?

I'm good with this kind of game, but my suggestions would be entirely predictable, so I'll defer to see what others come up with.

If we want to get really mind-boggling we could divide it up by some agreed upon sub-genres and have different heats. Like: Class of 77, post-punk, hardcore, ska(-punk), 90s (punk revival/pop-punk/whatever), or whatever. Might make it more challenging, but this is presumably a reason to kill some time, so adding another layer may not be bad.

This might make my head hurt. Actually coming up with 50 will be hard I think. Probably start by picking my favorite from each artis and then from each record and try and winnow it down to 50.

I was thinking we could each submit 20 songs and then I would combine the lists, deleting redundant songs. This would give us a master list that we could then winnow down to 50 and then we'd do a survivor type poll to work towards #1.

I'd say to start everyone who wants to play should submit 20 songs and we'll go from there.

If we can consider the entire clash catalogue as punk then mimimum half my list would be clash for sure.
