Bowie wrote it for them. Mott is the definitive version but Bowie is on it.101Walterton wrote: ↑29 Mar 2020, 7:08pmDon’t know whose was the cover but Mott’s version of All The Young Dudes is better than Bowie’s.

Thanks I knew Bowie gave it to them just wasn’t sure if he had used it first.Heston wrote: ↑29 Mar 2020, 7:11pmBowie wrote it for them. Weird. I don’t much care for that. It feels lifeless.Marky Dread wrote: ↑29 Mar 2020, 3:46pmYeah one of the rare occasions where I prefer the cover to the original.

Re: Wednesday Poll PLAYOFF #1
I think Bowie has about a 50-50 record with covers. And I mean 50-50 good vs. not good, not 50-50 better than the original.
For example, his cover of Cactus is good, but the original is better.

Same here. 'Aladdin Sane' is one of my top 3 Bowie albums, certainly top 20 albums in general, but it's the weakest song (or "track", rather) on that album. Just feels stiff, forced and overly frenetic in some fashion.Wolter wrote: ↑29 Mar 2020, 9:48pmWeird. I don’t much care for that. When I first heard it many years ago I wasn't keen on it after hearing the Stones so much. It sounded kinda jarring but now i love it and genuinely enjoy it more than the original. But hey both are great.Wolter wrote: ↑29 Mar 2020, 9:48pmWeird. I don’t much care for that. For the record, I think it’s musically good. It’s Bowie’s vocals. They just fall flat for me.Marky Dread wrote: ↑30 Mar 2020, 5:36amWhen I first heard it many years ago I wasn't keen on it after hearing the Stones so much. I admit it was the vocal that first put me off the song by Bowie. But I really dig it now.Wolter wrote: ↑30 Mar 2020, 8:46amFor the record, I think it’s musically good. It’s Bowie’s vocals. Late surge for ABBA but given the other polls, this is done. Sigh.
