Might have to dust off Scum. Haven’t listened in a while.
great fucking album
I do feel like the appreciation for grindcore on this site is directly proportional to how much hardcore was in rotation during your first year or two of punk fandom.

What sort of weirdo pop?
It was a term someone else used. I just like good melodies and lyrics, whether it's pop, punk, ska whatever.
Same. I listen to plenty of atonal weirdo music like Jandek and Autechre but I’m not some hipster elitist. Thin Lizzy is my favorite band for fucks sake. I love power pop and melody.
That is so far outside of Heston’s taste. If it wasn’t in the UK top of the pops between 1964-1984, it might as well not exist.
You say that like it's a bad thing.
It’s a neutral thing until that’s all you like.

Nah, I like a lot of stuff outside that remit. You're right about me not having much time for arty farty atonal stuff, and I do dislike noise for noise's sake.

Metallica isn’t grindcore.

Now this is a fucking tune. The chanting at the start was a sample from The Wizard of Oz and works oddly well. From there we get a standard solid riff but it hits 10/10 from 4 minutes exactly. Starting with a nice drum fill we get one of Hetfield's best ever riffs followed by one of my favourite solos from Hammett. ...And Justice is one hell of an album, probably my favourite of theirs.

To any metalphobes on here, please skip to 4 mins in and I'll glady accept any repentance.

And Justice is the best thing they ever did hands down. I never got why people hated on the black album so much when it’s clearly just a logical progression from the slower groovier numbers they did on this album. I also think it’s laughable to accuse Metallica of selling out when they were hardly ever the heaviest thing in metal. They set a precedent for speed perhaps, but by 88” thrash was old hat. The thing that set them and megadeth apart were their songwriting skills, and knack for catchy progressive song structures.
I mean for fucks sake this was released in 87:
Fully agree Justice is them at their finest, that album is a masterpiece and sadly often overlooked to Master of Puppets (still a great album). The Black album I don't mind at all and I like the fact they tried something different, same with Load & Reload, though they weren't as strong but I agree with you that after Justice a change was welcome.

Load and Reload are basically done in the style of early bluesy metal like Sabbath. Maybe some very minor grunge influence in there. But again, how is that selling out? They never really fully sold out, the songwriting just became worse and worse and the riffs became more stale. They’re still a fantastically great live band who I would see in a heartbeat and have every right in the world to coast off of the success of those first five albums. Especially considering that’s more than most bands will ever accomplish.

To me, that is absolutely hilarious! And good use of a Metallica CD as well.

Not many artists could justify a song length of 9:46 but Hetfield and co proved any naysayers wrong with the title track from ...And Justice For All. Absolutely epic, solid riff, great breakdown in the middle leading back to the opening riff and one of their finest finales ever. One of the best ways to spend 10 minutes,

Two things The Hard Times is excellent at: mocking contemporary ska and mocking Metallica.
