I would dispute the “demonic” thing. Metallica were a thrash band above all else. Thrash is probably the least D&D of the metal sub genres in general.
Yeah even early on nothing remotely demonic about Metallica. You could make the argument for Slayer.
And even Slayer is absolutely performative.

A thing about thrash I’ll note is that of all the metal subgenres, it’s the one most likely to be political, and even left wing. It’s also the subgenre with the most non-white musicians/fans.
And yet Hetfield is pretty conservative, isn't he?
Oh yeah, it’s not exclusively left wing by any stretch (Hi Dave Mustaine). But overall, the genre is farther removed from the worst reactionary bs nazi shit you see in Black Metal, for example.

Mustaine was at least sort of left at one point. Now he's also a BAC so part of the territory and getting older and richer has a way of making people conservative. Sacred Reich is an example of left wing thrash.

Napalm Death is usually my go-to example. Those guys rule.

Both Napalm Death and Sacred Reich (whose name sounds super nazi but absolutely isn’t) are great.

The final track off their latest album, many fans agreeing this is their best track since Justice. I'm more than happy to cosign that.

Nothing better completes the evaporation of radical cred than letting a car company use your music.

There's a rumor that Bruce is doing a Jeep ad for the Super Bowl. That seems remarkably out of character and would be very disappointing.

And he's hard up for cash, I'm sure. Having more money than most Third World nations give you the easy means of saying no to that crap.

Rich guys don't know how to live without an income. It's why we need to take everything more than 125 times the average salary and give it around. If I had a fucking 10th of a classic rockers savings, then I'd never have to work again.

I'd be working for free, doing the stuff that I want to do. When I see George Clooney doing coffee ads, I think, "Have you blown all your cash on condor eggs?" Let some up and coming actor living in his van do those ads.

In fairness, the album that Enter Sandman came from 30 years ago was considered the completion of that cred evaporation by most of the people who were listening to them in the mid 80s.

I mean, it made them orders of magnitude richer and I assume they never really looked back, but still...
