Geezer Butler, bassist of Black Sabbath. He was the main lyricist of the band but was often overshadowed by Iommi's guitar and Ozzy's Ozzyness.

I think the only Sabbath member that’s probably correctly rated is Bill Ward.

He's pretty highly regarded in drumming circles. Not Bonham level, but up there. Not sure if that's correct or not.

I always thought he was actually pretty good and underappreciated at least for his time and place.

Is he? I’m shocked. I always heard he was competent but unspectacular from most of my musician friends. Like, perfectly fine for the music but not earth-shattering.

Statistically speaking anyone here between the ages 35-65 is probably an underrated member of the Fall.

I’ll nominate Cathal Smyth of Madness.
Although originally he didn’t have an official role in the band the band will tell you that in those early days when he wasn’t there they weren’t the same band. He was the drive that kept them together.
He became major songwriting contributor with some of thier biggest hits including Our House.
He was also the driving force behind Madstock and the band reforming.

The heart of the band really. With Mike the brains and Suggs the voice.

I'd say underrated but I'm biased. I laugh when I hear people saying Paul Cook or Rat Scabies were the best drummers from the punk era. Topper was miles ahead of them.

Probably not.

Most people are going to notice the most bombastic drumme4s, for lack of a better word. The ones who look and sound like they're doing a lot. Bonham, Moon, Peart come to mind.

I agree that Topper was way more accomplished as an all round drummer. But both Paul and Rat served their respective band's brilliantly.
