So- how didn't I know the new Wire was out?

And am I correct in assuming this is Chairs Missing meets A Bell is A Cup?
ABiaC is the closest reference; no Chairs Missing, tho. My quickest synopsis would be ABiaC with better production, more natural and fuller sounding. With Bruce Gilbert's departure, the new emphasis is on Graham Lewis bass and Robert Grey's drums. I'm so-so on the results, but that's mostly because I'm a fan of the noise that Gilbert brought to the band. The live versions of the new material are a lot noisier and, imo, fun. It's still worth getting, but it's not the kind of thing that will inspire others to wanna be like Wire.IkarisOne wrote:And am I correct in assuming this is Chairs Missing meets A Bell is A Cup?
Easily the most poppy and listener friendly track. "All Fours" has my vote for my favourite on the album—decent amount of noise to it.Dirty Harry wrote:One Of Us Is my favourite of the new album.
I think that's a good assessment.arsebundren77 wrote:All in all, I think Object 47 is pretty good but I haven't exactly been playing the proverbial shit out of it. Like Dr. Med says, it's a very clean sounding album that would probably benefit from a bit more noise but, hey, it's Wire and it's 2008 so I'm not really complaining. Lyrically, though, it's very ABiaC... mostly free association nonsense, but I mean that in the best way possible.
My favourite Wire disc, a near-perfect melding of their late 70s guitar-based weirdness and 80s dugga. Best album of the millennium.nigeyb wrote:I loved 'Send'.
That's OK. Their tour is selling out so I think they don't need it to. I really like this album. Send blew my shit away, but I find it a bit one-dimensional these days. It could use a few more tuneful tracks like Mr Marxs Table. The R&Bs and Send were Wire resetting the dial, and this is them proceeding from there.Flex wrote:I'm not quite the Wire fan Hooky is, but I've heard highlights and have some albums. I liked Object 47 but it's not exactly a disc that would convert non-believers.
Ahem...I think someone is forgetting something...Dr. Medulla wrote:Best album of the millennium.nigeyb wrote:I loved 'Send'.
Love the subtitle: "The Dethalbum." For those who were still unsure.Wolter wrote:Ahem...I think someone is forgetting something...Dr. Medulla wrote:Best album of the millennium.nigeyb wrote:I loved 'Send'.
Hey, what a coincidence. Colin's my favorite Twins fan.eumaas wrote:Listening to O47 now. Definitely hear the Beatles trace CK mentions.
Colin's my favorite Wire member tho, so it's no surprise I'd like this.
