It's long overdue, especially since they played a hand in getting us together in the first place. I have an old two-disc one that I thought I could just give her, but looking at it now, I'm totally baffled at the songs I left off of it. I can't imagine who I made this thing for originally.

You could slip in "Up To the Sun" in the middle to show her that you're probably a monster.Kory wrote: ↑20 Oct 2021, 4:36pmI'm just sequencing "Torch It" 15 times.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑20 Oct 2021, 3:26pm“Crazy For Love” is all you need.Kory wrote: ↑20 Oct 2021, 2:16pmI'm making a Wire playlist for Maggie. Re: So- how didn't I know the new Wire was out?
An illustration of why I love Wire:
This is barely a song, more just a persistent rhythm and rather monotonous delivery, but it can pass as a catchy song within the post-punk vein.
Then they record it again, accelerating and replacing monotony with mania or panic.
And then deconstruct and distort the fuck out of it into abstract spookiness.
So generating three distinct pieces with their own emotional effect out of what was quite limited as a song in the first place. That original stage of the band was absurdly creative, generating such interesting sounds while working on a minimalist canvas.

The new Record Store Day list is out (April 2022) and it says there's a Wire LP 'Not About To Die' on it!
The only thing I know of that title was this bootleg. So, presumably, Pink Flag are issuing a legit version.
It had some demos and outtakes that were rare at the time but I think are all now released on the various deluxe reissues of the first 3 LPs.

The sensible guess would be that it's a sampling of the extras of those deluxe releases. Which, well, suck it up, collectors, you're buying it again.JohnS wrote: ↑16 Feb 2022, 2:24pmThe new Record Store Day list is out (April 2022) and it says there's a Wire LP 'Not About To Die' on it!

I mostly agree with that. Apart from A-Z, I'm underwhelmed by solo Colin.

In the hierarchy of Wire solo work, for me it's Graham > Bruce > Colin. Colin's "Bastard" album is just abysmal (but I ain't a fan of drum and bass at all).Kory wrote: ↑21 Mar 2022, 2:58pmUnless you're a genius, it's so hard to create music that anyone will care about. Ha! I know Colin briefly went as Klive Nice, but Hornsey Transfer is new to me.* I'd love to meet Graham and be agog: "Oh my god, Hornsey Transfer? Is that you? I haven't seen you since 1977!"
* Huh. Wilson Neate covers it but it escaped my memory.
