Great addition to the pogues but should have been bigger with his own band imo.Heston wrote: ↑21 Jun 2020, 6:27amThere's a Pogues documentary where he sings it with an acoustic in a record shop and it's brilliant. Could be and there was an old bbc doc on irish music called Bringing It All Back Home which has a studio version, that's the one i was thinking of. I'd say the live versions are the best though.Heston wrote: ↑21 Jun 2020, 6:51amI think there was a studio version on the "Look Them In the Eye" box set.Low Down Low wrote: ↑21 Jun 2020, 6:44amI have a studio version he did on my music player somewhere, least i always thought it was studio anyway. I'm going to go out on the strongest limb imaginable and say that the booze is not the problem here.

I know that’s a Stones classic but I never got into it. Any Keith lead vocal for the matter. His voice is really unappealing.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Hello,
I actually like Keith's vocals - yes, really nasal-y and really different sounding when listening to a Stones song - but I like it. Maybe it's because it gives me a break/it's something different from Mick's voice. This may be my favorite:

Mick's not a good singer by any means, but I like his voice a good bit. Any Keith vocal is just not for me - Soul Survivor alt take is just abysmal, intro to Salt of the Earth (it's a sweet relief when Mick joins, not unlike Joe taking over Something About England), and Before They Make Me Run.gkbill wrote: ↑21 Jun 2020, 4:11pmHello,

Little T&A isn't bad though. Lots of good backing vocals which helps.

New Order, "Dreams Never End" (Hook sings lead).

Found that BBC version on YouTube. Good to finally hear a studio version with PC on vocals, though I'd agree the live versions are superior.Low Down Low wrote: ↑21 Jun 2020, 7:00amCould be and there was an old bbc doc on irish music called Bringing It All Back Home which has a studio version, that's the one i was thinking of. Ah, ok. Not sure where phil version comes from but that's my default one for the song. It's a goodun regardless, pogues had as many good songwriters as they had singers.
Was surprised how many covers of this song exist btw.
