I have often mentioned my theory that the best ever time for the UK top 40 was March 1980, which is near enough to this edition. The last time I was rebutted by you with your 1979 claims. ;)

I remember watching this particular edition at the time as I was taken with the BA Robertson track.

I have been religiously watching the TOTPs repeats on BBC4 for the last few years but I'm being severely tested now we are in to 1989. Some dreadful stuff compared to the early 80s glory days.

It was pop metal really and he may give it a pass for nostalgic reasons.

He's pretty hardcore with his hatred unless he was banging some chick while it was playing.

Funny in the US at the time that song wouldn't have gotten a whiff of airplay outside of college metal stations/shows but Ill hear it on the classic rock station from time to time these days as if it was something people widely listened to 35 years ago.

Always loved the selecter on totp. Fun band.

And Poison Ivy!! The force of nostalgia is strong with that one.

The Barbara Dickson song is pretty excellent, even the easy listening stuff was good back then.

I can't recall ever hearing Priest or Maiden on any regular rock radio station. It wasn't until MuchMusic came along that I heard that stuff outside of friends who were into it (I was a Top 40 Heston-of-the-Tundra in those days). I suspect hip hop has led to a lot of opening up the classic rock canon to more aggressive stuff for angry white dads.

Yeah punk wasn't too big where I grew up so there was an uneasy alliance with the metal heads. Some of their music was good and they were able to score good drugs.

Nah hate it but it was only used as the backing track to the chart rundown so not really listening.
