Re: Top Of The Pops
I have often mentioned my theory that the best ever time for the UK top 40 was March 1980, which is near enough to this edition. The last time I was rebutted by you with your 1979 claims.101Walterton wrote: ↑21 Jun 2020, 7:37pmThe 2 Tone episode of TOTP is legendary however look at this track list for 3 April 1980. Re: Top Of The Pops
I remember watching this particular edition at the time as I was taken with the BA Robertson track.
I have been religiously watching the TOTPs repeats on BBC4 for the last few years but I'm being severely tested now we are in to 1989. Some dreadful stuff compared to the early 80s glory days.

It was pop metal really and he may give it a pass for nostalgic reasons.revbob wrote: ↑21 Jun 2020, 8:09pmI like it, but 101 is racist towards metal.Heston wrote: ↑21 Jun 2020, 8:08pmOne of the best heavy rock songs ever recorded and I was a connoisseur once upon a time.revbob wrote: ↑21 Jun 2020, 7:51pmYou must skip thru the Judas Priest part.101Walterton wrote: ↑21 Jun 2020, 7:37pmThe 2 Tone episode of TOTP is legendary however look at this track list for 3 April 1980. Funny in the US at the time that song wouldn't have gotten a whiff of airplay outside of college metal stations/shows but Ill hear it on the classic rock station from time to time these days as if it was something people widely listened to 35 years ago.

The Barbara Dickson song is pretty excellent, even the easy listening stuff was good back then.

I can't recall ever hearing Priest or Maiden on any regular rock radio station. It wasn't until MuchMusic came along that I heard that stuff outside of friends who were into it (I was a Top 40 Heston-of-the-Tundra in those days). I suspect hip hop has led to a lot of opening up the classic rock canon to more aggressive stuff for angry white dads.

Yeah punk wasn't too big where I grew up so there was an uneasy alliance with the metal heads. Some of their music was good and they were able to score good drugs.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑21 Jun 2020, 8:46pmI can't recall ever hearing Priest or Maiden on any regular rock radio station.
