Shut up, man. I'm tryin' to get laid here.

Thanks for the comments. You *need* to see After Hours. Anyone who hasn't seen it needs to see it. It's driven by a Kafkaesque humour that I think most everyone here would embrace.
After Hours is very cool. Need to see it again its been a while.
Whenever someone in a movie or tv show does the Klondike-5 thing, I respond, “Not enough numbers but okay.“
You have a better memory than I.

I liked how uncomfortable the movie made me feel at times. It also reminds me of some of my own after hours experiences in NYC. I dont go out looking for trouble and weirdness but I often find it.

It was very uncomfortable, tho clearly I had no comparable experience. In a way, it captures well that transitional period where the city was still seen as dangerous and damaging, but people started returning because it has a romantic edgy appeal.

All of these were new to me but I've led a very sheltered life.

Cowbell
It's almost like it's too much slide guitar for me. I really like the part where it's voice/drums/bass and a few guitar lines but I find the slide a little overwhelming. Not that I dislike it but it has to be used sparingly for me or it starts to sound gimmicky (not specifically this song, just in general)
Enjoyable start though.

Sons of Kemet
Not sure if the song is a vehicle for the dancing or not but I can't really imagine listening to this unless it was accompanied by the video or in a live setting. Nothing to dislike but it seems like it's part of something bigger, rather than a standalone song. Like it's part of a film score or something.

Streetlight Manifesto
I find it hard to like ska so it's immediately facing an uphill battle. I do like the parts without the horns but I guess that's like enjoying a sandwich without the bread when reviewing a ska song.

The Bobby Lees
I think I actively dislike the dungarees wearing guitar player so this is definitely one I enjoyed more while not watching the video.
After I switched to a different tab it went from 'meh' to 'I kind of like this, I'm going to play it again'

Unschooling
I like it without it really totally grabbing me and punching me in the face (which, if I was doing ratings would be the highest accolade.) Definitely took a couple of listens for me to get it and in fact, the more I listen, the more I like it. I reserve the right to come back later on and admit my face is, indeed, bruised.

Cowbell, “Tallulah.” It’s a charge that can be made against any genre if one isn’t predisposed to it, but blues rock all sounds the same to me. Like rural bar band. Which isn’t necessarily bad—after four beer in a trashy bar, it’s what you want to hear—but it’s impossible for me to offer a semi-meaningful comment.

Sons of Kemet, “The Castle of my Skin.” Initially, I wasn’t all that taken by this, but the longer it went on, it had a mesmerizing quality. Not sure why, but the more frantic it gets, the more it holds you. Yeah, seriously hypnotic despite the nervous energy.

Streetlight Manifesto, “The Three of Us.” More rockish than the ska normally shared here, but I still lack the experience/taste to assess this stuff. It’s fine, I guess, because I don’t dislike hearing it.

The Bobby Lees, “Drive.” The song is a lot of fun, definitely, but, man, the video screams try-too-hard. So much mugging for the camera. A song that probably sounds better on the radio or Spotify or whatever.

Unschooling, “More is More.” Oh yeah, this is the portion of the program aimed at me. Twitchy, persistent, urgent. It could have been recorded in 1980. I could listen to this stuff all day long.

Folk Implosion - Natural One
God, I fucking love Folk Implosion. I haven't heard them (or this song in a while) but it's pure uncut classic imho. What a band. 10/10
I'm always surprised they weren't more popular. Dare to be Surprised became one of my favourite albums (of any group) after my initial disappointment that it wasn't 12 different versions of Natural One

I've been checking out more stuff by Unschooling. Primo shit for those of us who fetishize 1979–1981 postpunk.

Hello,

I think they're very good. I'd like to see them live to see how their recorded stuff comes across in front of a crowd.

Okay winguses and dinguses, here we go:

1. Lesibu Grand - Hot Glue Gun
Here's a new track that's been featured on our local punk radio station a lot. Play it fucking loud, imho.

2. Viagra Boys - Ain't Nice
Another newer song. A bit more of a burner, but I still recommend playing it fucking loud.

3. Bad Cop/Bad Cop - Nightmare
This song is a little older, but you still may wanna play it fucking loud.

4. Jaya the Cat - Closing Time
A little different, but you're still gonna want to play this fucking loud.

5. Bad Waitress - Let's Get Fucked Up!
Hmmmm... this may not be on YouTube at all. Anyways, you're definitely gonna wanna play this one fucking loud.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

1. Lesibu Grand - Hot Glue Gun
Enjoyed this I like her voice. Fun punky track good vibe. Didn't care for the video much. 8/10

2. Viagra Boys - Ain't Nice
Didn't like this guys voice and that put me off from the get go. Not for me this one. 5/10

3. Bad Cop/Bad Cop - Nightmare
This is cool. Great fun track can't think who it reminds me of. Maybe Shampoo. 8/10

4. Jaya the Cat - Closing Time
This is more laid back and I like it but I was kind of expecting the tempo to do a sudden shift about two thirds in. 7/10

5. Bad Waitress - Let's Get Fucked Up!
This has that shambolic punk feel that The Libertines carried off so well. It all hangs together regardless. My favourite of these 5 tracks. 9/10

GERUSSI

Au Revoir Simone, “Crazy”
Really enjoyed this. Good strident melody and well executed. 7/10

Kitten, “Cut It Out”
Agree with Olaf, a bit too processed and polished for me but decent tune. 6/10

Drug Store Romeos, “Frame of Reference”
A bit twee and airy for my tastes but pleasant enough. 5/10

Midwife, “S.W.I.M.”
You mentioned Swans. I was never gonna like it. 1/10

The Innocence Mission, “There”
Again, pleasant enough but a bit nicey nicey for me. 5/10
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

If these 5 had shown randomly on a playlist, I'd have been thrilled.

Lesibu Grand
Really catchy. Love the bass too, especially during one of the instrumental bits where it sounded a bit John Entwhistle-y.

Viagra Boys
There's something strangely compelling about VB. They're the only one of the five I'm familiar with which came about because Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods promotes them a lot. I enjoy "Welfare Jazz' a lot.

Bad Cop/Bad Cop
I love this kind of punk/pop. Maybe more for nostalgic reasons than anything else and this would fit right on those tapes I used to lovingly make and share back in the day. I find the bad acting in the video somewhat endearing too.

Jaya the Cat
Reminds me of the 'The Way' by Fastball which was one of those songs I'd *love* when it came on the radio but never bought it. I'd probably feel the same way about Jaya the Cat - I like it a lot but probably wouldn't buy it with real money.

Bad Waitress
I did play this one (and the rest to be fair) at about the highest level my PC setup allows (which a least has an external amp and Klipsch speakers) and it was much more enjoyable for it. I wonder how many songs I don't get the full effect on because I'm too lazy to switch the cable and make do with the tinny internal PC speaker. My neighbours probably hate me even more now, but it's worth it when I hear songs like this.

Thanks Marky. Yeah, Viagra Boys felt like my polarising pick, but glad the rest hit the spot nicely. I thought we'd all maybe enjoy just a bit of a punk rock rave-up for 5 songs.
