Oh, I totally got what it meant...which is worrying.
I should add that it also depends on the context. If you ask a southerner directly if they’ll do something and they say they “might could do it,” there’s a very good chance they don’t want to do it and are looking for a way out without having to say no. Or they might need persuading. You kind of need context clues then.
Oh, I totally get that as well...which is worrying.
Sounds a bit like the NZ expression ‘yeah nah’.
"could do like" is the term up here.

Think we were gonna get a list of participants and kick it off in alphabetical order? Remember when we did a revolving guest slot in the top 5 thread and no one could ever remember who was next? But chaos is good too.
BitterTom, unless we have an ArseBiscuits, is probably first.
Do numbers like "101" not come first?
Numbers pfft what is this math class?

It will just be a list of songs related to his first 5 sexual experiences anyway which is a crap shoot at best.

And then there's the whole time travel aspect.
I can hear you!
Which part isn't true? The math part?

It's not just American. It's American southern idiom. It implies a shade of "this is possible, but not 100%"

Bless your heart.

(There is something weirdly and sympathetically Canadian about proper Southern culture's reluctance to be straightforward. We're just averse to human contact; you're wary of being forced into an honour duel.)
Even weirder, a really old Charleston accent even has similar vowels to a stereotypical Canadian. My uncle Lewis used to even say something similar to the clichéd “aboot.”

Charleston was founded by Scottish immigrants, no? That could be our cultural connection. And why we're reluctant to loan anyone money ever.

From what I’ve heard the Old Charleston accent (which is all but gone these days) comes from a weird mix of English aristocracy, Scotch-Irish workers (which essentially means Scottish), French Huguenot refugees, West-African slaves, and a surprisingly large Sephardic Jewish contingent.

While I doubt I could pick up the subtlety, I imagine you can very easily discern the difference between that and an accent from Virginia or Mississippi?
