So...Tom next? Doc seems reluctant.
I've missed the last couple of reviews so would be unfair to post mine again, happy to skip to either Doc or gkbill, whoever fancies it. Hope to be more online soon, been a hectic few weeks.

Liked this one it reminds me of the Cars "Just What I Needed". 8/10

Goldener Reiter - Joachim Witt

Jerusalem - Spliff

Not for me this one. 3/10

Alles Neu - Peter Fox

Kind of that drunken bluesy stuff that is cool when you’re drunk and blue. I enjoyed blond afro dude lamely banging the tambourine. Dude, take a hint, they want you to leave.

Hoffentlich ja - Die Profis
Marky nailed it with “Just What I Needed” comparison. I like the deliberateness and the quiet-loud-quiet structure. The singer also sounds a bit like a muppet, which actually works for me. Overall, this is fun and, yeah, whimsical.

Goldener Reiter - Joachim Witt
Love that icy post-punk approach, rejecting rock n roll emotion. There’s also that Kraftwerk/Devo robotic presentation. This hits most of my sweet spots.

Jerusalem - Spliff
A bit too nervous sounding for my physiology. Both the bass and keyboard seem bent on making me sweat and seeking an exit.

Alles Neu - Peter Fox
Total batshittery going on this video, but I love it. There’s not a whole lot going on in the song, but it’s got a compelling militaristic rhythm and has real conviction. Regardless, my love of Planet of the Apes means I have to approve of this madness.

Ton Steine Scherben 6/10
No real strong feelings on this one. Can't say I really like it but I also can't pick out a reason to dislike it.

Die Profis 7/10
At first I wasn't sure I could get over the vocals but I was quite into it by the end.

Joachim Witt 6.5/10
I liked it more when I wasn't watching the video because I got a bit of a we-are-wacky feeling at first. Perhaps that's a better way to do this because I did like the bass but could have done without the weird vocalizing bit

Spliff 5/10
Didn't mind it, but it didn't really go anyway for me and didn't have enough to keep my interest after more than a couple of minutes. I kept hoping it would break out a bit but it didn't.

Peter Fox 8/10
Liked this a lot. Can't really pigeonhole it. Need to find the album now :)

Wir müssen hier raus - Ton Steine Scherben
They looked like hippies but sounded a bit angry. 5/10

Hoffentlich ja - Die Profis
Decent enough but they sound drunk. 6/10

Goldener Reiter - Joachim Witt
Verses are a bit detached sounding and cold for me. Bonus point for the chorus that reminds me of Bear Cage by the Stranglers a bit. The bridge bit is utterly nuts. Had grown on me by the second play, good stuff. 6.5/10

Jerusalem - Spliff
Verses a bit nondescript and reminded me of Trio a bit. Broke out into a decent chorus though. 6/10

Alles Neu - Peter Fox
I'm the odd man out here as I wasn't a big fan of this. 5/10
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Here you go. Tried to keep the whimsical to a minimum.

Wir müssen hier raus - Ton Steine Scherben
Love the intro into the opening verse, but man the vocals bring this down for me. And Doc is spot on about the tamborine player. Gotta give it like a 4/10.

Hoffentlich ja - Die Profis
I dig this. Great riff and that shout along chorus. 7.5/10.

Goldener Reiter - Joachim Witt
This is too 80s for me. I like the bass and drum groove and the chorus is enough for me, but yuck. So that's enough to give it up to 3/10.

Jerusalem - Spliff
Great sparse/tense groove. Love the drums/bass/keys and then it kinda splashes into that nice catchy chorus. 7/10.

Alles Neu - Peter Fox
Took a few listens to "get" this. The chords/melody are still perplexing to me. Some weird major/minor juxtaposition that I'm having a hard time processing, but I do like this. I like the chorus and the faint "yeah yeah yeah" backing. This is weird, but I like it. 7/10.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I really enjoyed reading the reviews!

Heston was spot on calling Ton Steine Scherben angry hippies. First rock band to sing in German and part of the Berlin squatting scene in the early 70s. Some of their song titles became political slogans of the radical left and were also used by the German punks later. The singer is the very young Rio Reiser, who some might remember from my old avatar.

Die Profis were from Düsseldorf and sprang from the same scene as Die Toten Hosen. I think they had a minor hit with this one, but otherwise remained pretty obscure. Always thought they deserved a bit more success.

"Der Goldene Reiter" became a kind of signature song for the New German Wave in the early 80s, although Joachim Witt never really wanted to be a part of it. Don't think he complained about the record sales though. Great lyrics about a guy on his way to the asylum.

Spliff, formerly the Nina Hagen Band, carried on pretty successfully without Nina. Loved this album as a teen.

A lot of German music coming out these days is pretty boring. Peter Fox' album "Stadtaffe" was a breath of fresh air.
