It's quite an enjoyable album. Those Elvis fans who take offense don't realize it''s actually a labour of love.

That makes two of us. I used to have that bootleg on LP - it was a labour of love/hate from whoever produced it. The packaging was great, with a lyric sheet and a 'replica prescription note' insert. I sold it to a workmate - a genuine Elvis fan - who thought it was the best LP he'd ever seen, plus it has some never-released-officially tunes from some of Elvis's films.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑29 Oct 2020, 5:54pmBecause I'm a jerk, my favourite Elvis album is Elvis' Greatest Shit. Used to have, yes. The Follow That Dream ("official bootleg") label didn't exist back then, of course. There's also the "Elvis Close Up" box set that came out in the early 00s I think that covers some of that ground.JohnS wrote: ↑30 Oct 2020, 6:17am, plus it has some never-released-officially tunes from some of Elvis's films.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑29 Oct 2020, 5:54pmBecause I'm a jerk, my favourite Elvis album is Elvis' Greatest Shit. I've heard it said that people tend to become more conservative as they get older. I don't think that's the case for me. I do appreciate prog rock more as I get older, however.

I've got a few of the semi-official releases (Col. Tom was hawking them at shows, I believe) of just Elvis bantering on stage. Plus one of the same style except E fucked up and/or angry.Olaf wrote: ↑30 Oct 2020, 9:20amUsed to have, yes. The Follow That Dream ("official bootleg") label didn't exist back then, of course. Having Fun on Stage with Elvis. It's dreadful. Tom Parker wanted something he could sell that he wouldn't have to share with RCA, so strike all of the music and just sell a disc of Elvis rappin' with the fans.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑30 Oct 2020, 10:27amI've got a few of the semi-official releases (Col. Elvis in Concert is a bad release. Elvis is in bad form (and near the end) and the production work is shoddy and the cover is awful (don't even get me started on the font).

There's something delightfully McLarenesque about the sneaky greed involved and just plain abusing the fans for their devotion. Terrible, terrible people. (edit: McLaren and Parker are terrible, not the fans. Except for fans like Flex and Olaf and Wolter, which should go without saying.)WestwayKid wrote: ↑30 Oct 2020, 10:41amHaving Fun on Stage with Elvis. It's dreadful. Re: A Safe Place for Unpopular Music
Say what you like about Phil but this is an excellent song.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board
Re: A Safe Place for Unpopular Music
Yeah, the cover is just dumb. And what with the fan comments between the songs? It's taken from a TV Special isn't it? Probably still available somewhere, but I could never bring myself to watch it because it would depress me too much.WestwayKid wrote: ↑30 Oct 2020, 10:42amElvis in Concert is a bad release. I thought some of the songs were decent though, one or two pretty good versions even. But it's been a long time since I gave it a spin.
