I love Soft Cell
Bedsitter and Say Hello are great songs. I only know the hits, thought they had loads but when i checked turns out they didn't have that many top 10s at all.
5 top tens in the UK ain't bad.

I haven’t listened to either in a while but I recall enjoying both of these compilations.

I'm reading this right now:

mad-world-new-wave-book-interview.jpg

The author explores one song per chapter, with the artists looking back and talking about the song and the era.

It's an interesting read.
Lori Majewski is actually a friend of mine - she is the definitive source of all things new wave.

I also can't believe I somehow missed this thread? Gary Numan is the most important person in this genre. I also love early Human League and Spandau Ballet. And, of course, early DM.

I'm really enjoying her book. I heard her discussing it on an episode of Sound Opinions last year, but then kept forgetting to pick it up.

I'll put in a good word for an old friend who interview Numan last year: https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... -interview

I saw Tubeway Army in '78 just before the release of their first album. I thought they were great they were a bit more punky then. The Replicas album that followed is one of my favourite albums ever.

My uncle died in 1985 when I was 8. I don't have that many memories of him, but after he died my mom ended up with a bunch of his cassettes. They ended up sitting in a box on a shelf because while she didn't want to get rid of them, they weren't things she listened to. That box became a treasure trove for me as a young kid: Talking Heads, Wire, Nick Lowe and more. One of the albums that really caught my ear was Songs From the Big Chair. I listened to it over and over again. I listened until the tape wore out and broke and then I attempted to splice it back together (with mixed results).

Head over Heals is my fave track on the album. It's such a gorgeous song. Ian Stanley's synth lines particularly stand out.

TFF totally rule, at least when Curt Smith is in the band. Also a fan of Simple Minds' third and fourth albums, Japan, John Foxx, etc etc

Got the album on now, totally agree with Head Over Heels, great track and yep that synth works its magic nicely. I really like Broken, nice rhythm and feel, simply a solid track. EWTRTW though is still my favourite, near perfect for me, the build ups are epic, as is the chorus and the middle 8 is fucking spot on.
