Here's a curious one: "Money." I honestly don't know whose version is most iconic, but I'm not sure it actually is Barrett Strong's. Maybe it's the Beatles' or Flying Lizards', but I don't know about that, either.

My fave like I expect maybe yours is the Flyjng Lizards. But I think The Beatles cover must be the most famous and well known.

Tainted Love - Gloria Jones/Soft Cell

Yep this one is definitively a bigger hit second time out. The Soft Cell version is way more iconic than Gloria's northern soul original. Many thought it was an original.

This is the key to a good cover. Find a song that was a minor hit that vaguely lingers in the memory.

That said the version by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts that we're all familiar with was not Joan's first version. She originally cut it with Pistols Cook and Jones.

I think you have the bands the wrong way 'round. Kimberley Rew (Soft Boys) wrote it and The Bangles covered it. I'm more familiar with the latter although I've heard both which I'm guessing is your point. Good track.
