My fave like I expect maybe yours is the Flyjng Lizards. But I think The Beatles cover must be the most famous and well known.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑26 Nov 2020, 8:04pmHere's a curious one: "Money." I honestly don't know whose version is most iconic, but I'm not sure it actually is Barrett Strong's. Maybe it's the Beatles' or Flying Lizards', but I don't know about that, either.

Yep this one is definitively a bigger hit second time out. The Soft Cell version is way more iconic than Gloria's northern soul original. Many thought it was an original.
This is the key to a good cover. Find a song that was a minor hit that vaguely lingers in the memory.

I've got *the* answer for covers that supersede the original: "I Love Rock n Roll" - Joan Jett / The Arrows

Yep that's a good one. But you have *a* answer not *the* answer.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑27 Nov 2020, 7:38amI've got *the* answer for covers that supersede the original: "I Love Rock n Roll" - Joan Jett / The Arrows
That said the version by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts that we're all familiar with was not Joan's first version. She originally cut it with Pistols Cook and Jones.

I associate that, oddly enough, with Napster. When searching for Sex Pistols, that version showed up over and over and over again. That said the version by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts that we're all familiar with was not Joan's first version. She originally cut it with Pistols Cook and Jones.

Also should add Alan Merrill who co wrote it sadly passed away from this bloody covid virus earlier this year. I think you have the bands the wrong way 'round. Kimberley Rew (Soft Boys) wrote it and The Bangles covered it. I'm more familiar with the latter although I've heard both which I'm guessing is your point. Good track.drowninghere wrote: ↑27 Nov 2020, 10:26amGoing Down to Liverpool - The Bangles / Katrina and the Waves

Hazy Shade of Winter by the Bangles - I don't know how many people knew the S&G original.

If that's true—I honestly don't know—it's because it's such an atypical S & G song.

I did know the original. But The Bangles version kicked it into touch.
I'm also very fond of the version by Snuff. Wolt might back me up here.
