Other people's songs...

Post by Marky Dread »

Songs by other artists that bands seemed to make their own.

Armagideon Time - Willie Williams / The Clash

Walk On By - Dionne Warwick / The Stranglers

Curfews have been curbing
The end of liberty

Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
Manfred Mann - The Mighty Quinn

In fact, lot's of Dylan.

Maybe controversial but Born To Run by Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

I'm not stating for which I prefer. But do you really think FGtH when you hear BtR or Bruce. Did they really make it their own or just a good cover? Maybe if FGtH had released their cover as a single A-side it would've had more impact.

I agree with the two Dylan ones.

Another that fits this conversation here.

Blinded By the Light - Bruce Springsteen / Manfred Mann

I heard the Frankie version first, so yes I do. I still think the Bruce version sounds like it's playing on 33 instead of 45rpm.

Maybe in the UK, but in the US I’ve only heard Buddy’s (absolutely superior, sorry) version On the radio.

I feel like both of those are equal in my estimation, but I grew up in a house with an Elvis fan and a Willie fan.

I prefer Buddy's version all day long. But here we got the Stones so it's one of those songs where people think it's their song.

Yeah. It’s definitely from that early era where they mainly did covers and probably hadn’t fully broken here, because I was a literal adult before I heard the Stones version, but the Holly version is etched into my soul.
